3 Seperate Trades set Crew up for World Domination

How exactly do you research the effect of a base stealer on the mentality of the pitcher? I'm not disputing that it has been done or questioning you, it just seems strange.

If it affects a pitcher mentally, wouldn't it affect a hitter, too? I mean, both guys are thinking about the base stealer, even if they are thinking different things. If that is the case, I'd think those mental affects would cancel each other out.

As a hitter, the last thing I want is to have to take a pitch, potentially one I can drive, to let a guy get a pitch to steal a base.

Your right, that would be odd. A pitcher standing on the mound with electodes stuck to his head to measure brainwaves http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . The research I saw didn't research the mentallity, it researched the result. It compared a batters OPS with basestealers on versus no baserunners. The baseball book ,The Bible, IIRC, also did some in depth research on the subject, but I'm not as familiar with that.

I think your overrating the effect of stolen bases. A stolen base never drives in a runner from 1st. The impact of stolen bases is very minimal.

We aren't trading for Crawford,so i don't really get into debating over trades that have almost zero percent of happening.

With that said,i do notice that in general, whenever guys like Crawford or any very fast player is brought up,the only real talk about their speed is how much value are stolen bases worth.Extremely fast baserunners like Crawford bring value on the basepaths besides being able to steal.

They can go from first to third on some singles that a Jenkins like player has to stop at second. They can score from first on gappers that a Jenkins like runner has to hold on third. They can score from second on some singles where a slower runner has to stay at third. They can tag from third where slower guys can't along with tagging from second on balls a slower guy has to hold. They can force errors from infielders and outfielders that rush throws or overthrow because they know the ball has to be out quicker than if an average runner was running to first or trying to advance on a hit.

Lastly, talk of steals often compares say a steal of second being worth less than a double, and that is true.Great basestealers like Crawford also steal thirdbase a fair number of times which creates many easier ways to score a run.

As an aside from baseball value and strictly just from entertainment value,i love watching not only great basestealers, but fast great baserunners. When they are doing their thing on the bases,i find it a joy to watch along with extremely exciting.I wish there were more players like Crawford in the game.
