Cecil Fielder interview on Hot Stove 2/19

Teatoe993
I think Cecil makes Prince look bad. I'd have a falling out with my dad and "really change" if my dad stole a couple million from me too. Then Prince looks bad because he wants a big pay day from the Brewers. In reality his dad stole his signing bonus and he was playing for a couple hundred thousand dollars a year while completely out performing it. I know to the average person a couple hundred thousand is nothing to sneeze at but for a pro athlete it's nothing. People need to give Prince a break.

I'm frankly disappointed this thread has gone to two pages.

Cecil Fielder has nothing to say that's relevant to this team or Prince.

Neither does Brian Roberts or ARod and we got multi page threads about them too. No reason to be so cranky, obviously people found it interesting including the early video of Prince when he was a kid.

I couldn't find the video using the link on page one. Searched you-tube without any luck. Does anyone know where i can watch this? Really interested in seeing those shots of prince at tiger stadium
Go to the link and type "Cecil Fielder" in the search box. It'll probably be video #2 and #3 on the top.

I'd say through their first 3 years they are pretty even when compare to his peers..

I don't disagree with that on the face of it, but the age difference is huge making Prince's accomplishments much more impressive. Prince was a major league regular at 21 (opening day '06), hit 50 HR his age-23 year with OPS+ of 156. His prime years should still be ahead of him. Cecil wasn't a regular until 26, and his age-26 year where he hit 51 HR was quite a bit better than any other season he had. (OPS+ 167 at 26, next-best full seasons were 133 and 124.) It's likely that Cecil could have been a decent regular earlier, of course, had he not been trapped behind Fred McGriff, but there's very little reason to believe he was as accomplished a hitter as Prince at the same age. It remains to be seen how Prince develops and ages, of course, but it would be a major disappointment if Prince didn't have a much, much better career when all is said and done.

I read it more as just disgust with Cecil, which I happen to share. That said, obviously it's a discussion-generator for legions of Prince Fielder fans http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The fact that Cecil was given such a prominent chunk of a one-hour show made it likely that there'd be something of interest to talk about. The other area of relevance was that when the topic was posted, there would have been several opportunities to watch reruns of the show.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Yeah, that was really more what I was getting at. I just don't like the idea of him out there doing press and stirring a pot that Prince or the Brewers don't really need to be stirred.

I probably could've toned it better, but, well, it was written at 1:30 in the morning on a weekend. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
