Sammy Sosa on the block

I heard on ESPN radio this morning that Sammy is on the block in Texas. I don't think he fits a need, but seeing that he is from Texas, there is always a chance.

i guess it would be kind of cool to cheer him instead of hating him

Sosa is a poor defender at best, while Mench has done a fine job in the field. He's a DH at this point, or a LF on a team with little offense.

You keep saying Mench has been fine in the field. Based on what? BP has him below average. Hardballtimes has him near terrible in LF with a below 800 RZR.

 

Sosa isn't an upgrade and Mench has been better than Lee but thats damning with faint praise.

He's made very play and also played many balls in the gap and down the lines into singles by getting to the ball quickly and throwing it to 2B accurately. He certainly will never win a Gold Glove, but he's been oodles better than Lee, and Carlos was adequate.

Lee was far, far from adequate. He scored a terrible FRAA of -17 between Milwaukee and Texas last year. And he's on the same pace with Houston this year with a -9 FRAA. His defense cost two wins last year and does a great job of neutralizing his bat.
