MLB '09 The Show

B2k1121

Yeah, that's what I was kind of thinking.

My DL times on PSN seem to be very hit or miss. I purchased and downloaded SF II Turbo HD Remix a couple weeks back and that went very quickly, but it seems like whenever I try to DL a demo, it goes really slow. Maybe they allocate more bandwidth to actual purchases than free demos or something. I know it's not my connection, because DLs on my PC and laptop usually go extremely quick.

Just played the demo. Seems like a great game. I played MLB 2K8 last year and thought that was done pretty well, but I like what I'm hearing about contracts and other things about The Show this year. I'll likely be buying it when it comes out. Might go pre-order right now actually.

The only thing I really liked from MLB 2K8 last year was the ability to use the right analog stick to throw to the bases.

Played through the demo this morning and it's pretty awesome. The graphics are amazing...I'm used to the PS2 version, and this is of course a huge step up. It's amazing all the little details they put in, like seeing a beach ball bounce around in the upper levels, or having the pitching coach come out instead of the manager when the situation warrants.

I still kind of struggle with the pitching and hitting. I guess I'm a bit rusty. At least I only lost 3-2 in four innings of play.

Another thing I wonder if they fixed is the ability to choose your uniform in season mode.

The computer seemed to fall in love with the retros for the Brewers and made me wear them about 65% of the time when playing at home.

I downloaded the PS3 demo last night, the game seems like it will be pretty enjoyable. My batting is still pretty rusty (as evidenced by my winning 1-0 on a bunt single, stolen base, sacrifice, and a wild pitch), although I threw 4 innings of perfect baseball with Cole Hamels. The pitching comes back just like riding a bike.

I was impressed that the shadows actually changed during game-play, I don't remember that being a feature in past games. That will make day games at Miller Park a lot more interesting.

  • 3 weeks later...

I went to reserve my copy of this game today. I did a bit more reading about it on the PS3 website, it looks like they've added some interesting things. One thing they have tried to add is crowd realism, so teams like the Marlins will have no one in the stadium while a Yankees/Red Sox game will be packed with fans of both teams. It will be interesting to see if they've done the same thing for Brewers/Cubs.

They had a little feature video about the lighting, I think it is pretty cool the lighting changes, it will make the game a bit more fun and in some ways more difficult. I like the Franchise mode features with carrying the 40-man in Spring Training and having rosters expand in September. I also read you can finally choose your uniforms in Franchise mode now, so no 80% of my games in the throwbacks for me, lol.

I'll be interested to see how well the Brewers are rated and when the first roster update will come out, probably not until the end of spring training.

yeah there is really no need to reserve the game and i am confident it will be at best buy but ill also add that its really the only reason i even have a video game system much less a ps3. i am really not a gamer and hardly ever play but enjoy playing the show and trying to keep rosters as up to date as possible.

I reserved the game more out of convenience than need. I work 3 blocks from a GameStop and take a lunch walk everyday, so I figured it would be easier to just go in and out with no hassle.

I saw on one of the videos for the game they still have the Gehl Club animated as the .300 club. Bernie looks less stiff this year, which will be nice. Another cool feature was they said during a season mode if you play with the Cubs you'll see the Ivy go from bare brown to full green during the season.

I wonder if Miller Park's "ivy" will undergo similar transitions in the game.

Played the demo a little bit more...I'm fine with pitching, but I'm absolutely horrible at hitting. I think when I get the actual game I will be stepping it down in the difficulty department. It seems like everything I make contact with is either a ground out or fly out.

Here are some pics of some Brewers players. Not sure about the batting stances from these pictures but most of the players had pretty inaccurate ones last year, especially these guys.

You have to belong to the operations sports forum to see the pictures that is why they won't show up here. It looks like they did update Miller Park hopefully they updated the right field dimensions I believe they were wrong in the last game. Here are the pictures b2k had in his post.

Very cool screenshots. Miller Park finally actually looks like Miller Park. Does anyone out there have the PS2 version? I can't afford a PS3 right now. I remember with MLB '07, the PS2 version didn't have any of the new features that were part of the PS3 version, it was basically just a roster update of the game from a year before. Is that still the case this year? If they have the 40-man stuff on the PS2 version, I might have to go pick it up.

EDIT: never mind, I don't think the game has come out yet. Anyway, when it does come out, if someone could post a review of the PS2 version, that would be great.

picked it up today for ps3, beat the Cards 1-0 with the Pirates in the opening game. AMAZING game! struck out Ludwig with Capps for the save, and my friend is driving from S. Point just to check it out before I go to work tonight. So much for my social life this spring...
