Crazy trade idea-Michael Young

MLB trade rumors has a rumor of Michael young to the whitesox for Jermaine dye and aaron poreda.

Is it possible that we could make a move for Young...move him to short stop. move hardy to third and then trade escobar + for Peavy?

Is that taking on too much payroll?

Or pick up young. move cameron to the yankees. move weeks to CF.

This is a total pipe dream...

Cameron is a better player than Young so don't really like that second idea. Young's offense is starting to slip and his defense has always been bad. I wouldn't really want to see Young, Weeks, Fielder and then someone learning 3B (Hardy) as our IF defense either.

I think what this rumored proposal does is show how valuable Hardy is. Hardy is more valuable than Young, as he's better and cheaper. I find it interesting the the Sox are still searching for a middle infielder.

I'm still thinking Cory Hart to Atlanta, Kelly Johnson to Chicago, and Gavin Floyd here.

Escobar for Poreda is a deal I'd consider.

If the White Sox would do it, I don't see any reason why the Braves would include us. They need pitching too. That's where that deal breaks down in my mind.

We did have reports earlier that Melvin turned down an offer of Johnson for Hart, and that was before the Braves added Javier Vazquez and some Japanese starter. There also still negociating with Dereck Lowe. The Braves were seaching for a RH hitting RF, and they didn't fill that need yet. I see no reason why that deal wouldn't still be on the table.

I'm not saying I want to go out and deal for Young or anything, but the statement above is completely not true.

It isn't perfect but baseballprospectus has him at 22 runs below average defensively over his career and below average in 6 of 8 seasons, this is not a good fielding SS overall. He was a terrible fielder during his peak offensive seasons and now that his offense has slipped his defense has rebounded a little bit.

well those UZR numbers must be off because he won a GOLD GLOVE!!! maybe a lower score is good, like in golf.

i definitely want no part of michael young. that contract is gonna be a HUGE albatross around the neck of any team that picks him up.

Yeah, I want no part of Young either. Especially if he's going to whine about moving off SS.

Heck, here's the OBP/SLG of Weeks and Young in 2007.

Young .339/.402

Weeks .342/.398

Young's better defensively, at least if he'll move off SS, but Young is overpaid now and likely to be an albatross in a couple of years. Giving up anything of value for Young, without Texas throwing in a lot of money, is a mistake.

The problem is if you are going to do any kind of trade for Young, you have to get the Rangers to eat part of his contract. He's going to be way overpaid...so you either trade too much to get the Rangers to eat some of the contract, or you do a very middling trade that doesn't really help the trade at all in the long run. I guess I just don't see how it would make sense for the Brewers at all. Maybe if they would take Suppan and/or Hall, but I'm sure that won't happen.

Supp and Weeks for Young would be nice. Young said hed play 2nd for a new team.
So we sidengrade at best at 2B in order to thin out our rotation and not really save much money? Michael Young is just not valuable in any way so trading for him makes no sense unless he is the only thing missing from your playoff team.

Yeah, even as bad as Soup was last year, we can't think about trading him until we add some more starting pitchers, as we only have five in the entire system that are capable of starting a major league game.

As others have said, Young isn't a significant enough upgrade for us to take on that contract. Hardy's better then him, Weeks is around the same as him for a much lower price and Escobar and Gamel will be up for league minimum next year.
