Computer Virus

T B0NE 10

This morning I think I accidently clicked on a pop up ad or something that looked like a Windows box and immediately my AVG went crazy. Threat detected...etc. Got tons of pop up ads on firefox etc.

Now I restored the computer, but my restore acted funny, only one restore point- that said "Last time computer worked properly".

The virus is still there, Trojan downloader, trojan horse agent.

And my AVG isnt working right anymore either.

Help what should i do

Try this:

Reboot, and when you do, hit F8 on your keyboard...

This should give you the option to boot up in Safe Mode (assuming windows xp here)

Try running avg once you boot in safe mode.

When you hit F8, tap it repeatedly. There's a window of opportunity to bring up the menu that offers Safe Mode; you don't want to miss it.

Regarding online virus checkers, be very careful to make sure they're reputable. Of course, Norton's would be fine.

If you're dealing with a keylogger, it'll pick up every keystroke. There's no way to tell what you have without some kind of telltale identification that you could use for googling purposes, though.

That seems to work pretty well.

I got something similar on my computer last weekend, spent hours trying to run a System Restore with no luck. Malwarebytes' stuff got my computer functioning again. I'm not entirely convinced that my system is "clean"; there's a site called bleepingcomputer.com run by volunteers that will help with such problems but they are a bit backlogged, I posted my info on Sunday evening and have not received a reply yet. As of yesterday it looked like they were still responding to people who logged their problems before Christmas.
