Giants Sign Randy Johnson

According to the MLB.com the Giants have signed Randy Johnson. No details on the financials of the signing. Giants sign Randy Johnson.

 

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Adding one of the most prolific pitchers in Major League history, the San Francisco Giants have signed free agent left-hander Randy Johnson to a one-year contract, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.

I would imagine Milwaukee would have had to offer around $12M to even be in the conversation.

 

If Zito were even decent, San Francisco would have a heck of a rotation. (Lincecum, Cain, Johnson, Sanchez, Zito)

 

Better yet, imagine if Zito were as good as the money is he being paid!

But of course he isn't and Sanchez hasn't proven he can control his stuff so could easily be a #5 starter still, Lincecum will likely have a letdown season after the abuse he took last year and RJ is aging very fast and struggles to pitch out of the stretch. This staff is going to carry that team to about 75 wins which is why this deal doesn't really make much sense unless the Giants get some hitting.

They certainly don't seem overwhelming right now, but with some luck they could get to 80 wins, which just might win that division unless the Dodgers go out and get someone like Dunn.
