According to the MLB.com the Giants have signed Randy Johnson. No details on the financials of the signing. Giants sign Randy Johnson.

 

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Adding one of the most prolific pitchers in Major League history, the San Francisco Giants have signed free agent left-hander Randy Johnson to a one-year contract, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.

ESPN is saying a 1-year contract worth $8 million. Possible incentives could earn Johnson another $5 million.

 

It's not a bad signing, and if he's pitching well, the Giants could even unload him at the deadline for something...maybe.

Wish we could have signed him for that. Too bad he only wanted to play on the west coast.

I would imagine Milwaukee would have had to offer around $12M to even be in the conversation.

Better yet, imagine if Zito were as good as the money is he being paid!

I agree. I knew we were a long shot, but I was hoping he'd sign here. As far as the Giants trading him at the deadline, I have to assume he required a No Trade Clause.

I didn't think the Giants could get any older. I guess i was wrong. You must have to be on the AARP mailing list for Sabean to sign you.

Eh...I would have liked to have him on a one year deal, but the possibility of him coming to anywhere but the West Coast seemed remote at best. I just wish the Brewers could pick up any real pitching help, and soon.

If Zito were even decent, San Francisco would have a heck of a rotation. (Lincecum, Cain, Johnson, Sanchez, Zito)

But of course he isn't and Sanchez hasn't proven he can control his stuff so could easily be a #5 starter still, Lincecum will likely have a letdown season after the abuse he took last year and RJ is aging very fast and struggles to pitch out of the stretch. This staff is going to carry that team to about 75 wins which is why this deal doesn't really make much sense unless the Giants get some hitting.

They certainly don't seem overwhelming right now, but with some luck they could get to 80 wins, which just might win that division unless the Dodgers go out and get someone like Dunn.
