Trade Braun while his stock is high? (No, I'm not joking.)

Quote:
I think Braun for Ricky Bones, Jose Valentin and Matt Mieske would be a good deal for the Brewers.

I don't know...Bones was an all-star and Braun has never been.

Guys, we don't need the thread locked, if we don't like the discussion, no need to post here. If this is a troll, he will be snuff out eventually. If not, maybe he's just a young fan who really does believe it would be best to trade Braun with such a high value. I think it's an absolute insane idea, but if it's a legitimate belief, no need to censor it.

Playing along with that, I'm not sure there is a player in baseball I'd let Braun go for. Maybe Verlander.

Part of the major appeal of Braun, and what makes him so valuable, is the fact that he's cheap for the next 3 years. We get a player of extremely high caliber for a fraction of his market value. That's why Prince and Hardy are so valuable. Hart, too. Do you know how much these guys make? Several hundred thousand.

Assuming Braun and Prince continue high production, they're probably worth over $10M in free agency.

Getting major production out of the first 3 years of a players career is one of the key ways that a small market team can have a chance to succeed.

For what it's worth, they just reported on BBTN that Livan was off the block. I still stand by what I originally said, despite the fact that most seem to disagree.

I don't like the idea of trading a young player who's having a phenomenal rookie year simply because it's not likely he'll be able to maintain that phenomenal rate of production.

Do I think Braun will hit 340 for his career, and slug 650? No, but I think given that what we have seen, it's not unreasonable to think he'll be a perennial 900+ OPS guy, perhaps better. Those guys just are too uncommon to give up for a rental. He's probably going to be the Brewers player of the month for July, which means he's been the teams best offensive player (Fielder included) for the only two full months he's been in Milwaukee.

It would have been a little like the Cards trading Pujols because he was so good as a rookie they didn't think he possibly be that good in the future.

We have been had. Eternal pessimist is my friend, who just happens to be a Red Sox fan. He continuously mocks this site and I saw him tonight and bragged this one to me. Another name that he has been known by is DL Sheets and he also the same individual that pulled off the _______ Brian the Automator.
