Wii suggestions?? - Official Wii thread- tips, tricks, cheats, system info.

Mario Kart for Wii is pretty fun, probably my favorite game to just pick up and play for half an hour when time is limted. My wife likes the steering wheel but I prefer to just use the nunchuk and controller. I saw plent of copies of Mario Kart at Best Buy both before and after Christmas. We got our months ago on Amazon when it was more hit or miss in Best Buy.

I am pumped to hear people like Resident Evil 4. My wife bought it for me for Christmas. She wasn't sure if I would like it but it was only $20 so she thought maybe I'd like it. I haven't played any of the Resident Evil games since spending a few minutes on the first one in college on an original Playstation.

She also got me Shaun White snowboarding, I haven't spent much time on it yet though.

I think I have the 2K8 Baseball game, I bought during the summer when we first got the Wii but haven't even opened it. I think I bought it because it was a baseball game for $20. A co worker told me he hated it but I just haven't gotten around to it.

My wife likes Mario Galaxy, think Super Mario Brothers for the Wii as a comparison.

Does anybody know where I can find a Wii Fit? I looked everyhwhere and they are even sold out online at Best Buy, Circuit City, K Mart. Wal Mart. Thanks
There are a few tracking websites out there that are useful. This one allows you to subscribe to text messages through Twitter. When a product becomes available, you will get a text message with the link. For example, I received one about 8:40 this morning saying that Best Buy had the Wii Fit available.

Glad to hear the new Animal Crossing is addicting. Has either you or your wife played the previous one for Gamecube?
No, this is our first Animal Crossing experience. I'm supposed to get a bug for someone. How the heck do I do that? I have a net but haven't run into any bugs. But I have been stung by bees. As Dane Cook says, "F**k bees....f**k bees..."

I downloaded the Internet browser. Anyone know how to get a version of Flash on there? All the sites my kids go to need Flash. Also, what's the best way to incorporate a QWERTY keyboard?
As far as I know, the Opera browser for the Wii does not support Flash 8 or 9, only 7 or older. My daughter goes to PBSKids and only about half the stuff is viewable. Youtube is viewable.

This website has a bunch of what I'm guessing are Flash 7 games that are playable and viewable on the Wii. We've used it many times. Nothing outstanding but my daughter enjoys the 'Shapes' game.

About the keyboard, I've heard any usb wireless keyboard works. I think Logitech sells a Wii keyboard for a lot more than what you could find a 3rd party one for but it incorporates some special features and keys often used in Wii surfing. Here you go...

I haven't read the owner's manual, but I'm assuming the Wii plays DVDs, right? I get the feeling I may want to watch some old school comedy tonight.

I suppose I could just slap one in and see what happens....

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

Really? I don't have a DVD player set up in my living room because the PS2 was always used as my DVD player.

I have them in the other rooms, but not on the main TV.

Rechargeable batteries and a component cable(if your TV can handle 480p)
I have a 1080p TV but the 480p setting is grayed out. It's on 480i right now. I have the Wii hooked up with an HDMI cable. I'm sure 480p wouldn't be a whole lot better but I'm not understanding why it's grayed out.

Wait? The Wii has an HDMI out? I didn't realize that. I thought it just had the proprietary connector.

Anyway, I have our Wii hooked up with component video cables and the 480p looks fine. With the Wii, the 480p isn't a huge step up from 480i, but it should smooth things out a bit on an HD capable set.

I really don't get why they couldn't have this system do HD resolutions, but whatever.

Sorry, you're right. I was thinking of our DVD upconverter. So... I am just using the supplied RCA plugs. Do I need to do something else to get 480p?

On that Shawn White snowboarding game, is that compatable for the wii fit board?

I haven't played wii music, but heard that all you need to do is shake the wiimote and it plays songs. probably good for a 4-5 year old to learn rhythmic beats, but other than that, not fun.

Still want to check out Tiger Woods golf, and now I'm really intrigued on this Animal Crossing game...AND it's pay day...hmmmmm.

Still need to beat Twilight Princess though, I'm only about 8 hours into it.

Not only is Shawn White Snowboarding compatible with the Wii Balance Board, but Nintendo led off their e3 2008 press conference with their PR person playing the game on said balance board.

(For what it's worth, if you're interested in the game, I understand that the version available at Target stores has additional content to play through.)

The Force Unleashed: Awesome, awesome story. If you're a Star Wars fan you need to play this at least once just for the story. The story takes place after episode III and just before episode IV. The playable character is Darth Vader's secret apprentice. You wield theWii Remote like a lightsaber and use your force abilities to defeat enemies. Although you're tempted to just slash you're way through the levels with your lightsaber, you won't get very far doing it...you'll need to use you're force abilities to be successful and you learn and perfect your force abilities as you progress through the game. Although the camera sometimes lags behind your movements, I really enjoyed playing this to completion. However, once completed, there's no real reason to play through again. If the game allowed for free play with the unlocked characters, it'd be worth replaying...over and over. But as it stands, it's a one and done sort of game.

Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels: Just slash with your remote -- gets boring and tiring quickly. I bought this one for my kids. They were bored with it that same day.

Mario And Sonic at The Olympic Games: The whole family loves this one. Some events seem impossible to master, such as skeet shooting and archery. But the track and field and swimming events, while they take some skill, are easy enough that my 4 and 6 year olds can play. Great family game.

Resident Evil 4: I like it, but not as much as others here. I love the way the game uses the Wii controllers. But, I was hoping for more of a story. I don't know what it is, but I have a hard time mustering any empathy for Leon, which takes away from my enjoyment in playing as Leon. Good, just want more from it.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: So far we have played one-on-one-battles, which barely scratches the surface of the playing experience. But, those one-on-one battles alone, are worth the price of admission. Kirby is unstoppable.

Lego Batman: Fun game and not too difficult -- but hard enough to keep it interesting. My 6-year old is obsessed with it. It is literally all he talks about.

Rayman: Raving Rabbids: Fun for the whole family -- except for the minigame where you have to trace over shapes on the screen with your Wii remote -- so frustrating that I want to chuck my remote through the TV.

  • 1 month later...
I just purchased a Nintendo Wii (having never played one before last night) and I was looking for some recommendations as far as what games are best (I like mostly sports oriented games, especially baseball-obviously) and where the best places are to get games and accessories as far as price and selection go. As it is probably apparent, I'm not much of a gamer but I like the idea of Wii being somewhat interactive and providing a little exercise (it has been a long winter). Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice you may be willing to offer up!

Bought my Wii just 10 days ago which included the Wii Sports disk.

Tennis - will wear you out

Bowling is fun

Boxing haven't tried - mrs1126 and I were going to try it on each other but it required a second Nunchuk

Golf - Driver, iron and putter were easy - very difficult to get used to the wedge - back and forth across the green a lot.

Baseball - just using a straight fastball was hard to hit. and be careful - it's easy to hit the other player when swinging the "bat".

Also bought the Wii Play game because it included another controller - bunch of cutsie games on it.

The day we bought (Sunday afternoon) it nobody had in stock Mario Kart or Wii Fit. With the knowledge in mind that a lot of stores receive their electronic shipments on Sunday morning (used that to success at Christmastime) went this past Sunday morning and found both games on the shelf at Wal-Mart.

Mario Kart is a blast and Wii-Fit lies about your weight! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

And whoever suggested Walmart because they had lower prices on games - FUGGEDABAHADIT - No discounts until they have been out for a while and have become passe' to most players.

I picked up a Wii recently. I only have Wii Sports right now, but I am having fun with bowling, baseball, and boxing.

I've heard good things about most of the games previously mentioned in the thread (RE4, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, etc.), but one that I'm wondering about is Guitar Hero. I am probably going to pick up Guitar Hero: Metallica when it comes out, but I don't know at this point if there will be a guitar pack that comes with it. A guy I work with suggested maybe picking up World Tour for Wii since it has the most up to date guitar. Any suggestions on that? I'm kind of a GH noob, but I'd like to play it.
