Netflix

brewcrewkid14
I am currently considering signing up for the Netflix movie deal, and I was wondering if anybody on here has had any experiences with the program. It seems like a really good deal (almost too good to be true), but I was wondering if there is a "catch" of some sort that I should know about before I sign up for it.

I have been happy with the service so far, I get the mailed movies and I also have access to a smaller selection through my xbox 360. I get 1 movie at a time for around $8-9 a month. I have only had it for two months. The turn around time from when i mail a movie to getting the next one is 3-4 days so that is pretty nice. So far I think I have gotten my money's worth. The selection could be better but it's alright.

I've had it for 4+ years and love it. Turnaround time is usually like two days (i.e. I drop something in the mail on Monday, get a new DVD on Wed). Selection is huge and you can watch some movies right on your PC - even better since I got a new monitor.

Definitely worth the money if you rent a lot of movies.

I've had the service for over two years now and I love it also. Have only had issues two or three times out of 200+ deliveries, and the situation was always rectified within a day or two. Turnaround time for me has been two days, whether in Madison or Milwaukee. Unfortunately for me, I have a mac so there's no instant watch, but it's still a great deal.

Allow me to echo the 'love it' sentiment. Like homer, if I put a DVD in the mail today, I'll have a new one on Thursday. I have the unlimited 1-at-a-time plan, and usually get 2 disks per week (8 per month) and watch some instantly as well.

The only catch is that there's a bit of a wait for popular new releases (like the Dark Knight right now) unless you get it right away, but that's typically not a big deal for me.

I also must give it a positive review. I have the unlimited 2-at-a-time plan and I probably get 15-20 movies a month, which is quite a steal at somewhere around $15/month. We basically always have one going back or coming in. It's real nice because my daughter (who is 7) can always get a different kids movie and her mother can get whatever she wants to see, so they're both happy. For me it's nice because I may watch 5 movies a year (yep, I never watch movies), but when I decide I want one, I can get it.

Also, there is very quick turnaround in Madison. They must have a local distribution site because all of my envelopes go to a local PO Box and I get an email withing 12 hours stating they have received my latest return and shipping of my next movie is arriving the next day.

I have had it for over three years and I enjoy it too. They have a great wrestling/MMA selection and I enjoy watching TV series on it as well. The turnaround is great too.

Anyone here ever try the Reboxes in front of the Walgreens and the Pick N Save's here too? They are really good as well. Only a buck a night, you can reserve movies online, and they text you a code for a freebie every Monday.

I've had it for a few years and though I don't watch enough movies anymore to make it all that cheap/movie it is nice to have movies in the house when I want to watch them. I like the fact that I can find odd movies and search for certain actors or directors. It's a lot nicer and easier to find unusual stuff than looking through the local blockbuster for hours.

I have had it off an on for several years. I like it quite a bit and use it mostly t watch TV shows on DVD. I quit my subscription during the baseball season since I don't have enough time to watch anything other than the daily baseball game during the week. I have the 3 at a time subscription and try to get at least 4 a week. I don't fel I get my money's worth if I get fewer than that.

Netflix + Online Streaming + Xbox 360 = No more cable!

I absolutely love Netflix. I'm working my way through the Sopranos right now, and haven't picked my next series yet, but their turnaround is amazing (and I'm in Houston). I'm pretty sure they have tons of distribution centers scattered throughout the land, so turnaround should be pretty solid, regardless of location (of course, your mileage may vary).

I have been a subscriber to Netflix in the past and really enjoyed their services. They generally had very quick turnaround, 2-3 days, and always took your word and rectified any problems very quickly (i.e. lost movies, cracked movies or movies that simply did not work: These problems were far and in between during my 3 + years as a member) They provide a great servivice for a very good price.

But about a year ago I switched over to Blockbuster, and iI feel I am getting a better deal. Currently, I rent out 3 movies at a time by mail (unlimited rentals per month), but i also have the ability to return the movies to the store and get free in store rentals as well, my plan calls for up to 5 free instore rentals per month. My cost is only 20 bucks a month. My turn around by mail is still 2-3 days, and my turn around in store is 3-4 days.

I watch a lot of movies, anywhere from 2-4 a week. But just taking advatage of 4 in store rentals per week pays for my whole plan each month. The advatage I have found with Blockbuster over my previous experiance with Netflix is that I am able to get the new releases in the store, if there is a wait list for it on line. For the popular movies, if you are unable to get them right away when they are released you sometimes have to wait a couple of weeks for them to become available again.

I am not sure what type of movies you watch or how many you may watch per month, but depending on what you are looking for, Blockbuster may be a better option for you, as it was for me.

I have Netflix as well. The turnaround for me hasnt been quite as well...usually 4 days, which gets kinda irritating for me. I would certainly not say "dont get it", but if you have a blockbuster near your house I would look at that one first. I used that one for a while b/c i had a blockbuster a few blocks away and you can return movies right to the store and pick up a certain number per month right from the store, so its basically the same thing except you can get a certain number of movies faster.

I've used Netflix for years are love it. If you aren't a fiend for the newest releases it is a great service, especially if you like older movies. Pretty much every movie on my site that I review I watch on Netflix, though if you really want the biggest selection GreenCine is the place to go.

And the online streaming through your 360 or Roku player is the wave of the future. If you haven't bought Blu-Ray don't, you're just wasting your money.

I have to say that I have gotten the latest movies pretty quickly. Within the first week of release. Mailing out a movie a day and putting upcoming releases at the top of your list helps a lot.

So I take it that's all High Def?

  • 1 month later...
I dont know if anyone is still considering getting this, but I am really getting fed up with Netflix and am going to cancel right before I get billed again. They are obviously buying less copies of all the movies now, as evidenced by the fact that I had to wait over 5 weeks to get Walle, and seemingly every new release I want to see (Wanted, Max Payne, Pineapple Express, Mirrors) somehow go to "very long wait" the second it becomes available. Also, another thing I've noticed is that its taking a lot longer for them to process my movies. For instance, I put 3 movies in the mailbox on Tuesday night, meaning they should have gone out Wednesday, and here I am on Saturday still waiting for them to say the recieved them so they can send me my next few movies. The fact that is taking almost a week just to send out a movie and recieve the next one is getting really old. Finally, one thing I never understood is how I can send out 3 movies at a time, in the same mailbox, and they "recieve" 2 of them on one day and the last one two days later.

Since my last post Netflix has gone full HD streaming for Roku players and the 360.

BTW paul, where do you live? I'm guessing no where near a distribution center since you have such a long wait. Also, my guess is that with the recent economic downturn Netflix has seen a big rise in new accounts due to the low cost fixed cost of the service, with that you'll have a lot more people vying for the same amount of films, the vast majority of whom will be trying to get new releases just as you are. If the increase in subscribers holds for a few more months I'm sure they will increase buys on new releases to accommodate. Also, their shipping centers are closed on weekends so you should try and adjust your shipping out dates accordingly. If it typically takes them 3 days to recieve the film then get them in the mail on Tuesday so you will get them that weekend.

Any particular reason why you don't stagger your shipping of the films? Shipping them all out in one bundle then waiting 4 days seems like a frustrating way to go about using the service.

A lot of it depends on when I watch them and when i make it to the mail box. I live on the westside of Milwaukee. But the thing is, this seems to be a pattern. I had it a while back and what happens is for the first 2 months or so the service is great, but then it gets progressively worse. Who knows, either way, I've had blockbuster before as well and I definitely recommend that one ahead of netflix.

every new release I want to see (Wanted

Don't waste your time on this one, unless you're mystified by two hours of a "curving bullets" gimmick. Just re-watch The Matrix instead.

Blockbuster total access has been pretty crappy on their availability lately. Might have something to do with splitting inventory between DVD and BluRay, but I've switched a few of my long wait BluRay movies back to standard DVD and it doesn't seem to speed things up.
