Milton Bradley signing with Cubs rumor

There's a rumor on www.mlbtraderumors.com that the Cubs have targeted Milton Bradley as a FA signing and that MB is amenable to signing with the Cubs.

What are your takes on this? I know he can be a huge clubhouse distraction, but he was great with Texas last year. I did notice that he has lost a lot of playing time, but I'm not sure if that was due to suspensions or injuries. His numbers are very good. The Cubs were already favorites in the division, we are going to be weaker, and this is only going to help the Cubs.

If he can still play in the outfield, it's not a bad signing for them. They've been looking for a lefty bat with some pop to play in the outfield, and while he's a switch-hitter, everyone else that fits that description plays left field and is already worse than Soriano (Dunn, Burrell, Ibanez before he signed, etc.). Slide him in between Ramirez and Lee and you have a pretty scary lineup that allows them to keep DeRosa at 2B.

The Cubs could win the Central by a dozen.
And still get swept in the first round of the playoffs!

Seriously, this rumor has been out there for about a week now. His bat makes sense - but he is pretty bad defensively. The biggest problem, as I see it, is that they were unable to add Peavy without dumping Marquis' salary first. How are they going to add Bradley at approximately $10 million and not drop someone else's salary?

For those who don't know, mlbtraderumors.com is run by a Cubs fan. You'll notice how frequently the Cubs pop up in different "rumors" on there. While I'm not saying that it is a completely worthless source, he does seem to allow his partiality to the Cubs to creep into some of his rumors on occasion. So just keep that in mind when you visit the site. And use an extra ounce of speculation when it comes to the Cubs being involved in a rumor.

"Leaving the Bellagio Hotel on Thursday afternoon, one Cubs official said Bradley was the team's next focus, and one of Bradley's representatives said Friday morning that the Cubs were at the top of Bradley's list."

I think this rumor's pretty substantiated... which is unfortunate, because I think it clearly makes the Cubs much better. Maybe uncle Bud will let us go back to the AL Central.
