Sports radio in Madison

TracyThom

Not sure if anyone saw this, but basically ESPN 1070 and Fox Sports 100.5 are going to do a switcheroo come 01-01-2009. 100.5 will now become an ESPN radio affiliate and 1070 will become The Big 1070.

100.5 will air ESPN radio programming along with keeping Homer's show.
1070 will broadcast Jim Rome and Dan Patrick, along with Heller and Murphy.

The best news is that 1070 will be featuring a morning talk show with Mike Lucas and Matt Lepay will have a morning talk show. Those are the only 2 local guys that I actually enjoy listening to.

I was very happy to hear of the programming switch. I actually do enjoy Heller and Murphy, and Lucas/Lepay is going to be outstanding. Listening to Jim Rome and Dan Patrick on 1070 sounds much better than Cowherd and Tirico/Van Pelt

Clear Channel didnt want to dedicate a station for ESPN deportes. Karmazin has a low rate AM station he is going to put it on.

I still wish they brought back the Dlist to Madison, but at least Lucas and Lepay is something to listen to instead of M&M.

My unsubstantiated hunch is that WIBA would prefer to keep Brewers games in the Clear Channel family, which would mean they'd remain on 1070. But yeah, even at our house in the city of Madison, we don't get 1070 in as well as 1310, and presumably 100.5 would be an improvement in signal strength.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The program director (Tim Scott) is still at 1070 which means he'll still be airing car racing on the weekend, right?! Oh, goodie. He's the biggest reason I got satellite: so I could get sports updates and coverage on the weekend instead of vroom, vroom.

On my radio at home, I'll listen to 100.5.

Despite their tuning down, I still live less than 5 miles away from the station. I assume their transmitter is there by the station as well....

As for WTMJ, I can get it just fine in my car. At home, it's good some times, shaky others.
