Anthony Reyes

Saw a report on MLBTR that the Phillies have scouted Anthony Reyes and it may only take Michael Bourn to get him. I know it would be doubtful that the Cards would trade with Milwaukee, but we could start with Gross or Gwynn, add something and give it a shot. Reyes is not far removed from being one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, and he certainly looked good against the Crew. Maybe a change would be a good thing.

Ah so he has one "decent" game so now you wanna trade for him? Cmon he was 0-10 and looking down right terrible. On a side note top pitching prospect...haha I think not.

Sorry but I'll go get Nick Nuggy instead because he was once a "Top Pitching Prospect".

Yeah, because a guy not one year removed from being a top pitching prospect is equal to a guy that's been out of baseball for 5 years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif

And I'm not suggesting that we go get him and plug him into the rotation. If we really believe that we have slight glut of OFers and it wouldn't take much to get him, it's worth at least considering. With Gallardo and Parra up now and Inman off to SD, Reyes wouldn't be bad to plug into AAA and hope he reaches his potential. There has been some talk about he and the Cardinals not being on the same page - maybe he just needs a change.

im refering to the top pitching prospect comment. nuggy was once, doesnt mean you name someone a top picthing prospect they are or will be.

Neugebauer blew out his arm. Your comparison is a poor one, that's my point.

Looks like peavy needs perfect examples.

Theres plenty and plenty of players who COULD be good but never are, why do you think Reyes is differently? People are just starting to realize Weeks is in that boat. It happens theres to many prospects for some not to fail, even if they're good.

his DIPS this season is 4.64 -- He has a 1.42 WHIP and is not a 6.40 ERA pitcher. 0-10 means next to nothing.

I agree that Neugy and Reyes are bad comparisons because Reyes still has the stuff that earned him top prospect status. He throws bigtime heat, with a ton of movement, and has a quality breaking ball. A better comp might be Edwin Jackson or Ervin Santana. The reason to aquire him is he could turn out to be the next Jason Schmidt, who wasn't an instant hit.

I think there's probably little chance of it happening anyhow (and the rumor had nothing to do with the Brewers either). Just found it intriguing and wanted to mention that MLBTR reported that the Phillies were scouting him.

My understanding is he doesn't listen to what the team tells him to do in regards to his delivery, pitch selection, etc.

He is a tremendous talent though that if we could get him at the right price could pay off huge dividends in the future. This is more of an offseason type transaction though.

I'm fairly certain Anthony Reyes is not a Latin player - he's an American. Of course, when I go look it up, I could be proven completely wrong.

He would be a nice long term, fairly inexpensive (for a young pitcher) project... certainly nothing that would help this year.

Edit: Indeed, Reyes is a full-blooded American (born in Downey, CA). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Perhaps a more apt comparison would be Mark Prior, though with much less success. Both were high profile Trojans. I like the idea behind looking into his trade value but right now, I wouldn't think he's worth either Bourn or Jr. Gwynny.
