Detroit does not trade for Jack Wilson

And That

I don't think the Tigers have much to give in terms of young players, but I think Wilson will definitely help this team. He plays hard, is often productive offensively, and is a leader. I'd be very happy if I were a Detroit fan.

His defense is where he brings consistent value. Hard to say about the offense -- career batting line of .269/.312/.375/.687. Basically Craig Counsell without the plate discipline, but his 2004 & 2007 seasons are strange outliers (as in, they were solid/good). Literally every other season he's played, his offensive line has been basically that career line, but two seasons he's been relatively good. I honestly don't know what to make of those two seasons, because my gut tells me to trust his career totals more than just two good campaigns... but esp. 2007 was so good for a SS that defends as well as Wilson.

EDIT: Guess I could post his good seasons. Just puzzling...

2004: .308/.335/.459/.794

2007: .296/.350/.440/.790

No matter what he's done in his career, against the Brewers he's always played like a cross between Babe Ruth and Ozzie Smith, so I'm glad the Brewers won't see him anymore.

Career Versus Milwaukee: .285 .343 .396

Career Overall: .269 .312 .375

He's better against the Brewers, but a couple of white hot streaks that he has had against the Brewers probably cause us to overstate his "Brewer Killer" status.

I think that, like Ausmus and various other scrubs, we have the feeling that they should be automatic outs like they are usually, so when they do better than their career numbers (even if it's by a relatively small margin), it's magnified in a way that a good player's success against the team isn't.
