The $4 mil unpaid figure may be a little high, but the current payroll definitely in the 75-78 mil range.

Very nice!

I see Melvin waiting and making a move on a FA pitcher worth around $5M, trading Hart, or keeping the roster (WORST move ever IMO) and saving the money to carry over to next season.

Kinda sickening that Jeff Suppan is the highest paid player.

The Brewers wouldn't really carry over $5M to next year if they don't spend it this year would they? I would think if they have $5M to spend this year and they don't spend it that the $5M never gets spent. If some random business's expense came below budget for one year I doubt they increase their budget next year to compensate. I know that isn't a perfect example.

As it stands now their is simply no way we could fit Dunn into our budget. It seems the only way it could happen is trading one of Bill Hall, Mike Cameron, or maybe Corey Hart. Hart is really the only guy I could realistically see traded. If we save about $2 million on that trade that still only gives Melvin about $6-7 Million to work with and I just don't think Dunn will come that cheap. We would have to give Bill Hall away for free and somehow find a 3rd base replacement in order to sign Dunn. I highly doubt anyone trades for Bill Hall so it seems like Dunn is pretty unlikely at this point unless the budget is higher than we think. If it is $83-85 million, then I think Melvin could make a run at him.

As an aside about the payroll, after we traded for CC and were discussing the draft ramifications, there was a lot of chatter about the amount of money it would take to sign next year's draft picks. But with the utter decline of our picks (from CC now only netting us a 2, to Shouse maybe simply retiring), does that impact how much we'll spend? It was opined that our draft next year could cost us $7-9M, and even though we could simply still pay the rate of what our pick WOULD have been and take a guy who slides because of signability, we haven't really ruffled MLB's slotting feathers.

Back to Dunn, he would be a significant upgrade offensively, but a serious declien defensively, unless you also move Prince off of first (which would seem to be a lateral move both ways). To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I think our outfield, the way it's currently constructed, is the least of our worries. Defensively, it's probably our best unit. And offensively, it houses 3 of the 5 best bats on the team. Bringing in Dunn won't do anything more than shake up a solid unit.

That said, if we got Dunn, I don't see HOW a team is going to pitch to us. Five man rotation between:

1B (Fielder-Dunn)

CF (Cameron-Hart)

LF (Braun-Dunn)

RF (Hart-Dunn)

Injuries and fatigue are bound to set in. With that rotation (though Dunn-RF is something I don't think I would embrace with open arms), offensive worries are a thing of the past. And with no Yost, there would be no calls for "hitting his way out of a slump."

I think that Cameron doesn't need to play 150 games, because he is getting older -- Hart doesn't need to play 157 games based on what he did last year, however, I don't see where Dunn would get enough games/ABs -- to justify this ---

I think getting Dunn only makes sense if Cameron/Hart/Fielder are traded.
