Who gets invited to Spring Training?

This may seem like a stupid question, but who gets invited to Spring Training? Is it just the players on the 40 man roster or are there more? I'm sure it's not everyone in the Brewers organization, so how do they choose?

Also, is training camp different than spring training? If so, who gets invited to that?

Thanks everyone.

Spring training and training camp would be synonyms. Invitations generally go to players with a chance to make the squad and players that Major League personnel would like to observe.

There's no roster requirement to receive an invitation. There are times that a player who doesn't have a contract at all is invited. Sometimes, an invitation to spring training is written into a player's contract as an enticement to sign. I don't know if all 40-man roster players are automatically invited or not.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

In Maryvale, there's big league spring training camp and minor league camp. Everyone on the 40-man roster is automatically in big league camp, which has nicer amenities. The Brewers will sign higher profile minor league free agents by enticing them with an "NRI" (a non-roster invite) to big league camp.

Once exhibition games begin, some minor league campers will be asked to big league camp for the day, to participate in exhibition games as backups.
