Proposal: Cameron & Weeks for Jenks, Vazquez & Getz

colbyjack

Many are suggesting that the White Sox are not done making trades after dealing Nick Swisher. They have made it clear that they want to get more athletic and add more speed, two things Ozzie Guillen loves having on his roster. They have needs at 2b, 3b and CF, as they plan to move Alexei Ramirez to SS.

Jenks alone is going to cost a lot, but my thought with this proposal is by taking on Vazquez and his remaining contract, who the White Sox reportedly would like to move, you may be able to get Jenks included. Getz is added to help negate the loss of Weeks, as I don't get the sense that the White Sox are thrilled at moving forward with Getz as their 2B.

Cameron was once a member of the White Sox, and would solve their issues in CF for at least another year.

The deal for the Brewers obviously fills one of their rotation spots, despite the mixed reviews on Vazquez, and also their closer role. Getz is a left-handed hitting 2B who has gotten much better at the plate the past two years. He works the count and walks a lot just like Weeks, but doesn't swing and miss nearly as much, and is considered a solid but not spectacular defender. He runs the bases well, but does not steal a lot of bases.

The deal could be expanded to include Jerry Owens for CF, but he's not that much different than Tony Gwynn.

I honestly don't know if the White Sox would rather move Jenks in a separate deal in an attempt to get more for him, although Weeks and Cameron do fit the mold of players Ozzie Guillen and the White Sox seem to like. Bill Hall is also another option as a player Kenny Williams has expressed interest in the past.

Flame on!

This is a very well thought out proposal colbyjack but I'll give it a try.

I'd be very suspicious of Jenks. As I recall he had a spell where his back? was acting up and he missed about 3 weeks in the middle of the year. Why are the Sox shopping him? I don't see a replacement on their roster and they control him 3 more years. I do like Getz though. I wouldn't put this one past Melvin. He's been known to take guys in deals he didn't really want all that much (Vazquez) to get the guy he did.

On paper it's a very intriguing proposal though. Think they'd take Suppan in the deal if offered?

I like Jenks and all but I guess I don't see how this would the Crew a better team. We would have a huge whole in CF and a 2nd basemen who has basically no MLB experience. I am not sure about Vasquez either, he wouldn't really be an upgrade over any of our top 3-4 guys.

If the goal is to get Jenks back, I would rather give up a bunch more and try to get Danks or Floyd back as well. You can start with Cameron, Weeks, Gillespie, and Salome/LuCroy or something like that. If they need a 3rd basemen perhaps you dangle Taylor Green out there instead of Salome/LuCroy.

That still leaves holes at CF and 2B though so I just don't see a good matchup here unless a 3rd team gets involved. How about this for a crazy scenario:

Brewers Get:

Gavin Floyd

Bobby Jenks

David DeJesus

Chris Getz

White Sox Get:

Mike Cameron

Rickie Weeks

Jonathon LuCroy

Leo Nunez

Royals Get:

Zack Braddock

Lance Broadway

Brent Brewer

I know there is probably a bunch of holes in my scenario but it is Friday and I am bored

It's the White Sox, why not insert Gwynn Jr. into the proposal and keep Cameron. If they want athletes with speed and defense, he fits the bill and they already gave us Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik, so I wouldnt put it past Williams. Although, talk to any Sox fan and that was the deal that got them their WS ring, so maybe we lost that deal after all.

So the Brewers would give up an underachieving startin 2B and one marginal major leaguer and about $4 million in salary for a top prospect, an All Star closer, and a starter who's paid like a number 2 but pitches like a number 4 and in the process add roughly $15-17 million of payroll?

Cameron would be in the deal in part to even out the money and because he's a legit starting CF. Both teams need that aspect which is one reason it's somewhat realistic..

I am very partial to Weeks so I would not like the trade, but it does seem like a fair deal for both sides. The Sox fill some holes, and the Brewers get some pitching, which we obviously need. Colby you did however bring up Williams past interest in Hall, which gets me wondering about a deal involving Hall for Vazquez.

The Brewers would have to throw in another player, but I think that could be a good deal for us.

All very good points JB. I don't think people realize just how Jenks has been in recent years, although his Ks took a pretty dramatic drop this past year.

This was already touched on, but the key to this deal is to try and get Jenks with a few other key parts that the Brewers could use sprinkled in. I'm not even sure as it stands right now if there's enough to make that happen.

Given the money involved, it's possible the teams could swap the two players straight up.
