Atkins available

nate82

I'm not sure if trading for Atkins would be a wise decision especially with the kind of prospects that would be needed to be traded to the Rockies. Atkins would be under control for 2009 and 2010. I believe the Rockies would be looking for pitching just under what they asking for in return of trading Holliday.

According to the Denver Post Holliday, Atkins, and Taveras are available. The Rocky Mountain News also have an article on this.

I'm guessing it would take a #3 or #4 type of a pitcher plus someone like Green and Cain to get Atkins. I would rather put that package together to get Holliday over Atkins even with only having Holliday for one year.

No thanks on Atkins, unless it is cheap, very cheap. His OPS from 2005-08 looks like .648/.933/.773/.661 on the road. He had a monster season in 2006, but those other numbers make me think I would rather just sign a guy like Casey Blake or Blalock and get similar production that Atkins would provide without having to trade for them.

I am on the Beltre bandwagon for sure. He would have to give up minimal value to get him if we take on the contract. I wouldn't mind having Atkins on the team, he is probably better than Hall/Counsell was last year but I think Hall also has the potential to be much better than him next year. Of course that is assuming Hall actually gets a clue and uses his talent which is probably unlikely at this point.
