Fielder to Red Sox?

I would do Fielder and Gwynn Jr. for Youkilis and Lester

This would assume that Gwynn Jr is equal to Lester (or Buchholz as someone else suggested). Fielder for Youkilis is actually quite unfair for the Red Sox, and Gwynn for Lester or Buchholz is pretty insane.

I didnt catch what the original date was of this post, but Fielder for Ellsbury, Buchholz and Bard is an excellent trade imo. I think I have been posting this same exact trade thought on various boards the past couple of months. Either someone has been reading my mind/or posts, or I think the same way as those Boston radio guys do.

I'm not sure I'd say Fielder for Youkilis is unfair unless you really put a lot of stock into 2008 stats and ignore previous seasons. Youkilis probably had his career year last year at age 29 and you would probably expect Fielder to improve over last year at age 25 still, even if he most likely will hit his decline stage by age 29 or so.

Having said that there is no way it warrents Gwynn for a real player on the backside either, especially not a young high upside pitcher. Gwynn is basically worthless as anything but a PR or minor league filler.

I don't know how the Brewers wouldn't do this trade. Prince is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. The youngest ever to 50HR's. What is his ceiling on power? But a potential ace that is ML-ready, a leadoff lefty who plays stellar d in center (and is as lethal on the basepaths as anyone outside of Reyes)...and a potential closer, to boot, that could be installed as early as next midseason. I am one of the biggest Prince fans, but if that is being discussed, there has to be more going to Sawx's way. As for Mike Lowell, I think it is but a formality that he will be traded, my guess is to the Twinkies, who have a big hole and are always willing to gamble. Otherwise there could always be a four man rotation between 1B/3B/DH, and it isn't as if Lowell and Big Papi don't have their health risks. Later, after the Big One hangs 'em up, the heir to his position takes over and Youkilis easily slides back to 1B.
