...and the women you take home....

I was waiting for that. You are soooo predictable...and portly.

My friend was housesitting once in high school and decided to have a party. We were all drinking but I don't think that had any effect on what I saw. Another of mine and I were in the den, which had a few chairs and bunch of family pictures on the wall. I noticed one picture of a woman and suddenly the room got really cold. It's hard to describe what I felt but it was almost like the woman in the picture was staring back at me, as if she was watching me. My friend looked at the picture too and noticed the same thing. We started to get freaked out so we went to the friend who was housesitting and told him what we saw. He told us that the woman in the picture was the daughter of the old lady who owned the house and she had died a few years earlier. Later that night, when we were going to sleep, I got a weird feeling like someone was watching me. A few minutes later, my friend (who was trying to sleep in the other room) came in the room and described the same feeling. Might have just been our minds playing tricks on us but I definitely believe that stuff.

Another story, a couple of years ago I was just laying down to go to sleep at home when I noticed an old lady standing at the foot of my bed. My grandma had just died a week earlier so I thought it was her. My aunt and uncle lived in my house for 10 years before me and my aunt noticed someone standing at the foot of her bed on more than one occasion.

Another: In my apartment in Madison, I share a bathroom/kitchen with the person in the efficiency connected to mine. I went to the bathroom and came back into my room and tried to close the connecting door behind me. I usually close the door really fast and I did so again this time and it was like I hit a brick wall. It was as if someone had grabbed the door while I was closing it and stopped it. Right away I thought it was the guy who lived next door but he wasn't there. I looked to see if the door got caught on something but it didn't. I tried to recreate it but I couldn't figure out how the door would just stop closing so suddenly. Also, about a month earlier, I was falling asleep when I heard noises as if someone was turning the doorknob trying to get in (or out) of the apartment.

I just remembered that when they were adding onto Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, rumors abounded that workers were seeing ghosts, and supposedly some walked off the job. I was working 80 hours a week at the time, making $6/hr and $4.25/hr, and the idea someone would leave a $15-20/hr job because of this almost knocked me down. I told everyone I would tell the ghost how much I was making, and happily keep hammering/sawing away.

  • 1 year later...

searched for this old thread since i think it was mentioned in the Scary Movie thread. of course i end up reading it late at night:)

Of course, I wanted to go check, but I had some sort of night

"paralysis" and I could

not move my body, but my brain seemed alert, and quite frightened. What

was scary, was the paralysis part, that I couldn't move my body to help

the girls.

I have no doubt I was either partially or entirely dreaming the

event..., but that was as scared and felt as helpless as I have ever

been in my life.

i've heard of this before, called "sleep paralysis." i think it has something to do with your brain waking up from sleep but your body not quite catching up. the "Old Hag" or "Someone was holding me down" ghost stories are common ones, and they're all because of this sleep paralysis. another common ghost-sighting is because of the "waking dream," where your eyes are open but still somewhat dreaming, so you end up layering a dream onto your real life bedroom, which is why people report seeing aliens or people staring at them from the foot of their bed. i had a roommate who once saw half of a skeleton walk across his room. i had a coworker who saw a clear-as-day face staring at him from a window as he was locking the building up at night.

Art Bell has told me too many scary Ouija Board stories that i'll never use one.

There was indeed a car coming up on us like a rocket. A red rocket actually, in the form of a Ford Thuderbird if I recall correctly.

Great story Jamie, but are you sure it wasn't a DeLorean? That would be a reasonable explanation.

sleep paralysis happens to me all the time. It sucks. Especially when I'm breathing in "used" air from having my face near the pillow or under the blanket....feels like I'm suffocating. The worst is that sometimes I get what feels like electric shocks and my 1/4 sleeping brain thinks I'm touching an outlet or a power chord. I also hear distinct voices in this state. Not sure of the medical reason for this; but I imagine my body produces too much of the stuff that keeps you from sleep walking, or doesn't know when to stop producing it.

Otherwise I'm totally normal. I promise.

When we moved into our new house, a few odd things occurred that were tough to explain.......at first.

1.) After a few months in the house, I was sitting on our bedroom floor, watching tv late at night. A silver orb floated down the hallway, and then dissapeared into the dining room. I honestly about crapped. I sat there a while, and it happened again. I got up, walked down the hallway into our darkened living room, stood, and waited. Sure enough, as I stood there, a car came around the corner, and as they went up the street, the headlight hit my front bay window just perfectly, and sent a silver ball of light up my hallway on the wall, til the car passed my house, and the orb 'dissapeared' into my dining room.

So several months later, I'm again sitting on the bedroom floor in the evening, when the bathroom door licked shut. Now this is a hollow core door, so it swings easy. It's got a good doorknob/jamb so it does take at least a minimal amount of force to make it click shut.

I got up, investigated, found no reason the door would shut. I open it again. Once the fall came, and heating season kicked in, we leave the bathroom door open a crack because there's no exterior walls on teh bathroom, and it gets hot as h-e double hockey sticks in that room. So about an hour later, the bathroom door shuts again. Now I have an idea of what's happening.

I get up, open the door about 4 inches. I turn off the furnace. I wait a few minutes. Turn it back on. Turn the thermostat up to about 75. Sure enough, when the heat kicks on, the register in the bathroom has just enough gusto to shut the bathroom door softly.

Now, I've seen these "ghost hunting' shows a few times, and I honestly think 98% of what people think are ghosts are crap like what I found that can be easily explained if you take a half hour and do a little investigating.

Nothing supernatural, but i continually used to have this dream where my father is trying to break into my place to try and kill me. They were very vivid and i'd wake up all the time remembering every detail of the dream i just had about this.

The weird thing is i'd often wake up scared by this dream in the middle of the night and remembering exactly where the dream left of. Then maybe a week later i'll have the same dad is trying to kill me dream, but it would start exactly where it left off a week ago. This was been going on for a few years and i get along great with my dad which makes this dream/these dreams about him so bizarre.

The dreams were so vivid, freaky, and felt so real that at first, it took me awhile to shake it from my thought process once i woke up for good that day. Then one night i had the dream and early that next day my dad stopped over, he lives only 5 minutes from me. It was a very strange feeling because the dream was still kinda lingering in my head, not just a typical time being around my dad. He was talking to me and the dream was now vividly running through my head of me and him in a vicious fight for our lives with a crazed look on his face.

Then out of nowhere, i stopped having the dream.

I once saw dadofandrew post on Oct. 14th, 1911.

i noticed the same thing. and when i went back to look at it a second time, it said 2008. spooky!

danzig, i was similar to you. i had some recurring nightmares when i was a little kid of a monster attacking my mother. i think i woke up screaming for a week in a row. the parents ended up taking me to get sleep-tested, and it turns out i don't fall into the deepest realm of sleep. not fun for a little kid to have to stay up for 24 hours. it's funny, i still remember the dream vividly.

I've done a lot of weird things in my sleep. One time a few years ago I woke up by sitting straight up and gasping for air. I sat there for about three seconds then got out of bed because I thought i was going to throw up. But I only took about three steps then fell down to all fours and was just kind of kneeling there for a minute or two til I caught my breath. I have no idea what, if anything, I was dreaming up and I don't know why I was gasping for air, but it was kinda weird.

Also, one time in college, I was sleeping in my dorm room with a loft. The loft was set to the highest level, so it was only about 2 1/2 to 3 feet off the ceiling. I woke up one day in the middle of the night on my back. My eyes were open, and I was looking directly at the ceiling. I was aware of the fact that there was a ceiling there. Then for some reason without even thinking, I sat straight up. This of course caused me to drill my head on the ceiling. That really woke me up. And after wards I thought, what the heck did I do that for?

I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to hauntings, but am wanting to do something unique for Halloween this weekend. I have read that La Belle Cemetery in Oconomowoc is haunted, and have read a few (not always credible) things about it online. Does anyone here have any experiences or tips for that cemetery in particular?

Last night, the light switches in our kitchen and living room kept turning on.

My roommate and I went to bed around 1 AM (and turned off all the lights). I was having trouble sleeping, and arose around 3 AM to use the bathroom. The lights in the kitchen and living room were both on, so I turned them off again. Then, around 4 AM I was awoken by a door opening and closing twice. I just rolled back over, thinking it was my roommate. Then, the lights in the kitchen turned on for about 30 seconds, then turned off. Thirty seconds later, they turned on again, and then off a little later. Once more it happened. I thought he just forgot something in the kitchen and came back or something. Then, they started turning on and off about once a second. I could hear the clicking of the switch. By that time I didn't know what to think. I sat there about two minutes, then finally got up to check it out. But before I stood up, it stopped with the lights off.

So this morning, I ask my roommate what the heck he was doing last night. He asks the same thing - it wasn't him. Very strange.

Now, I live on the second floor of a three-unit apartment, but the doors are always open for everyone in the building because we all know each other. But I've spoken to everyone likely to use our kitchen, and none of them say they were up at that hour. Both the front and back door's to building were locked all night.

I'm thinking someone's a sleepwalker. Any other suggestions?
