Fantasy Baseball: 2008-09 Offseason

Anyone know when teams HAVE to put a player on the DL? I'm waiting for the Yanks to put Arod on the DL so I can pick someone else up. I would think the week leading up to the opener, he'll go on the DL, right?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

Anyone got insight into the St. Louis closer situation? Or the Cincinatti outfield? I've had my auctions (12 team, 4x4) and took a couple of flyers on Chris Perez $9 and Jonny Gomes $1.

I'm unimpressed with my AL auction, which probably means it will work out o.k. I have a top notch group of prospects that should bolster a solid if uninspiring group though with Matt Wieters, David Price, Neftali Feliz, and Rick Porcello.

My NL team needs some offensive help, although I have enough SBs. I'm banking on bounceback years from Bill Hall and Khalil Greene. I should have an absolutely dominant pitching staff though with Johan Santana, Brandon Webb, Javier Vazquez, Rich Harden, Brett Myers, Dave Bush, Heath Bell, Cla Meredith, and Chris Perez. (Yeah, I spent $130 on pitching.) I have Dexter Fowler, Madison Bumgarner, and Lorenzo Cain in my minors which I'll probably have to use as tradebait to shore up some deficiencies.

I'm in a league that needs several players yet and is supposed to draft tomorrow night (31st). I really like the settings but they are different so not for everyone. 25-man-roster-like lineups, and weekly lineup changes (because I like not having to think about fantasy baseball every single day). Roto scoring 6x6 (adding OPS and holds).

Feel free to join if it sound interesting It's league #249908 and password is LP2.

Yeah I saw that. Not necessarily the worst thing in the world to have an opening to see who emerges early in the free agent pool though. Perez was a flier, not an integral part of my strategy.

I just had 2 guys drop out on me at the last minute. I need one person to fill in for a standard 5x5, 10 team league. Random draft order. None of us are fantasy baseball geeks or anything, so please don't join if your a super huge fantasy guy...we don't need to get beat down that badly http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

If anyone could join, it would help me out a ton. Draft is tomorrow night (4/1) at 8:00.

Thanks.

I'm in a 12 team league in Yahoo with a number of friends. This is my roster, please let me know what you think, it's been a number of years since I played fantasy baseball:

C: Napoli - He's an interesting player, I don't know what to think about him. He had 20 HR in only 227 ABs, is he really that good?

1B: Youkilis

2nd: Utley

SS: Hardy

3B: Wright

OF: Beltran

OF: Dunn

OF: Justin Upton

Utl: Uggla

Bn: Hawpe

Bn: Reynolds

Bn: Giambi

Bn: Salty

SP: Gallardo

SP: Harang

RP: Gregg

RP: Valverde

P: Bedard

P: Carpenter

P: Mármol

Bn: Malhom

DL: Hoffman

Thanks much for the advice.

Ok, I have made a few changes to my lineup. I exchanged Salty for Weiters (got Weiters in an exchange for Marmol a week ago), who I am hoping will be up soon (making Napoli expendable). I also swapped Reynolds for Burrell (not the best move, but whatever). I dropped Giambi completely.

On the pitching side, I added Jordan Zimmerman (pretty pleased with how he´s done so far), Price (off of the FA) and I have added Street. Marmol is gone, obviously. I was able to keep Carpenter on my DL.

I have had a few problems though.

1) Hardy has been an absolute black hole at SS.

2) Wright hasn´t lived up to being my first round pick at this point.

3) Uggla is also off to an absolutely horrid start.

4) Napoli is great, when he plays, which is only about half the time. (Hopefully his overall numbers will bring me a nice haul when Weiters comes up)

I took Kinsler at 17th in one league and I remember someone telling me it was too early to take him. It is a long season though and Tex could become a monster and Kinsler get injured. No regrets until the season end.

I am in a 16 team Head to head points league, and I was wondering what side of this trade you think is better? Keep in mind that you get to keep 2 players each season.

Ryan Braun, Chipper Jones, and Elvis Andrus for Miguel Cabrera (Elig at 1b/3b), and Jose Reyes.

I would give the edge to Cabrera/Reyes. Elvis Andrus is just being thrown in to fill in for SS and has limited upside IMO. Chipper has got to be pushing 40 and probably only has a max of 2 years left in him of .800+ OPS. I'm not sure who your other keeper would be along with Ryan Braun if this trade went down, but whoever it is their longterm value is going to be less than Cabrera/Reyes. Also with Reyes you are getting one of only 2-3 really quality SS in the game, so when next year rolls around you don't have to worry about overpaying at the SS position and you can concentrate on drafting more valuable players at other positions.

So unless you're in a weird scoring format that doesn't include steals or does include excessive celebration after hitting HRs, I would go with Cabrera/Reyes for sure.

I would probably prefer Reyes and Cabrera as well unless you have Hanley Ramirez already. Also keep in mind that as of right now, Cabrera will only be 1B eligible next season with most standard settings.

It sort of depends on the scoring system but I think I'd take Braun and Molina in a heart beat. If your scoring system is big on stolen bases then it's harder. My thought on trades is that I always want to be getting the best player in the trade. I'll give up the 2nd and 3rd best to get the best and the worst most of the time.

I was looking back at my leagues draft and I think I for sure got two steals in our draft. Gallardo in the 9th round and Heath Bell in the 17th. My top 2 picks have been gret Teixiera and Longoria. Of my 21 picks I have dumped 7 since the season started (Adiran Beltre, Jose Lopez, Chris Young, Cristian Guzman, James Loney and Delmon Young).

So far I'm being carried in a wost-to-first league by some big-time sleepers. I kept Gallardo (one of 4 keepers) and Markakis, but I made shrewd picks with Hoffman, Branyan, Bedard, Mark Reynolds, Carl Crawford, Joe Saunders, Edwin Jackson, and Mark Buehrle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it's been fun to actually win for once

BrewCrew-

I'm Commish of a keeper league on Yahoo, we get to keep 3 players...Not really anything fancy you can do in the free version. As long as you do an offline draft where you enter the draft results, it's easy.

I just log teams keepers before the draft on the draft board and then go home and enter the draft results into the database.
