Fantasy Baseball: 2008-09 Offseason

BrewCrewForever

If anyone is interested in playing for money, there are potential openings in a couple of roto leagues I'm in. One's an AL only 4 x 4 keeper league, the other an NL only 4 x 4 keeper league. League fees are $130 per team and there's a live auction for each the end of March / beginning of April. Minor league draft too.

If you're interested, let me know. I'll know more after next Sunday, re: how many spots are available, if any.

The categories are HRs, RBIs, SBs, Avg, WHIP, ERA, Wins, and Saves. I'll get back with other pertinent information.

This year, after 25 years of using Avg as a category, we are dropping it in favor of OBP.

How crazy would it if you just used OPS? That would be interesting. But just using OBP and not AVG is pretty crazy as well.

I know where you guys are coming from, but I long ago decided that rotisserie mirroring real life baseball wasn't necessarily the point of the game. You might as well just join a sim league at that point. Or just use VORP as a category.

The flakiness of BA and the fact that SBs are often associated with guys that may have a tenuous hold on their job enhances the game, IMO. Risk, variability, and the possibility of outside the box strategies aren't necessarily bad things in a game.

According to rotowire's website their 2009 magazine is in stores now. Anyone seen it? Hanley Ramirez is on the cover. I got their magazine last year and really liked it as a tool to use for my draft they let me know that Dioner Navarro would be a sleeper at catcher and the same for Joakim Soria at closer.
I'll have to recommend it, as I'm currently working for RotoWire part-time. I got my copy, looks pretty good.

Your working for them? That is cool how did you get that gig and what are you doing for them?

Also, did the magazine hit stands yet?

Why is it crazy to use OBP and not AVG? OBP seems to be a better indication of a players ability to generate runs than AVG does.

Its just a part time role at their main office writing player updates and doing customer service.

Its not on store shelves yet, but it is printed and you can purchase it either by calling in or going to this link to order online.

I've never done a keeper league in baseball before, what's a good number of players that each team gets to keep? 3? 5? Any rules as to how long? I can setup a second league (if you guys are ok with Yahoo that is) but I don't know the best parameters for keeper leagues in fantasy baseball.

Guys I need advice on another trade. Sorry but I took over a team in a deep full keeper league that hasn't done squat in a while and I am trying to rebuild it. The team really struggles offensively but has pretty decent and deep pitching. I traded Johan Santana for Ryan Howard and Brandon Morrow to help the team with HR, R, and RBI's and I think Morrow will be a pretty solid pitcher for years to come. Anyways, I have Ichiro as well and I know he gives you great BA, SB and Hits, but I still need to improve in the power categories so I was thinking of this trade...would you guys do it

I Give

Ichiro

Chen-Ming Wang

I Get

Joey Votto

Javier Vazquez

Am I crazy....I really like Votto this year and going forward.
