Ricky Nolasco

madrx
I saw Ricky Nolasco listed as a possible trade target by the Cubs on a board. He had a fairly good year last year and looks to be arbitration eligible for the first time this year. Will the Marlins try to unload him for prospects, or hold onto him for another year or two? His previous MLB stats prior to this year aren't really that impressive, but he had a K/9 of 7.88 and an ERA of 3.52. His ERA was actually slightly better on the road as well, so this was not completely a product of playing in a big park. He did give up a fair number of HR balls at 28, with a slightly higher rate on the road.

Nolasco has had some injury history, but a lot of teams out there would love to add an arm like his to the staff. Not sure he will ever be an ace but he sure could be a #2 for a long time on a conteder. Brewers go get him would be great because he would be a top end of the rotation, I just dont see a good match with them.

Not sure who the Cubs would be giving up to get a guy like Nolasco. Pie is not a player I see the Marlins wanting as they have young OFers. Maybe they could send some younger arms over to the Marlins to get him.

The Fish are rumored to want an upgrade to Jacobs at 1B. I believe MLBTR mentioned that he, Gregg, and Olsen could be shopped this offseason.

Fielder would make a lot of sense for them (if their willing to take on payroll). Not saying it's going to happen or that I want it to happen, but a Fielder for Nolasco & Jacobs might not be such a bad thing if the Brewers brought on a lefty-killing 1B to platoon with Jacobs. I guess I don't know how good of a defensive 1B Jacobs is, and that would be a factor. FWIW, some inexpensive RH 1B platoon options, Tony Clark and Richie Sexson.
