Looks like the first accumulating snow of the season will be coming through on Sunday night! Right now I'm expecting 1-3" of snow for southern Wisconsin, with the higher amounts in the Milwaukee area--definitely enough to slow down the morning commute.

Ok so after enduring months of below average temps last winter, we are not off to a good start this year. Seems for the past 2 weeks we have been consistently 5-15 degrees below normal.

Are we in for another long and cold winter?

it snowed here in Winston-Salem, NC a couple nights ago if that makes you guys feel any better. it was a high of 28 degrees yesterday and most everyone was complaining about the freezing cold. it got all the way down to 20 here once.

either way, i think i'm still moving to the Caribbean next year. i'll accept the occasional hurricane for the complete absence of winter.

The forecast is still for above-normal winter temperatures, so that's what I'm sticking with.

November is still running 1-2 degrees above normal due to the record highs during the first week.

BTW, last winter, above normal temperatures were also predicted.

Did they close schools ? Were there bread and milk shortages at the stores? No, I'm not kidding. That's tradition in North Carolina when snow falls or freezing rain is predicted.

I'm the type of guy who complains more about the 100 degree weather than the 100 inches of snow, so I'll take our winter over an Arizona summer anytime,.

unfortunately that happens before snowstorms everywhere.

i got into the habit of going shopping every wednesday when i was home with our baby a couple years ago. it just happened that one wednesday was the night before a snowstorm was predicted. the amounts of people with bread, milk, and water in their shopping cart was astounding.

when was the last time you remember a snowstorm in milwaukee where people were "snowed in"??

The last (and only) time that I remember Milwaukee getting snowed in was the January 2-3, 1999 blizzard. The storm came on a Saturday and schools were still closed for the most part on Monday. Generally, Milwaukee has enough plows that it is impossible for the city to get snowed in, but that storm had winds in the 30-50 mph range which created the biggest snowdrifts that I have ever seen. There was also a 100+ car pileup on I-94 during this storm.

Ugh. I remember I was visiting my family in Wisconsin that year and my parents and I were trying to get back home after Christmas. Granted, I didn't mind sticking around, but my parents were sure frustrated.

Our next door neighbor just got a snowblower and has been eager to try it out. Now that the winter storm warning area has shifted far enough west to include Dane County, I think he'll get his wish. Fortunately, he's the type of neighbor who'd offer to snowblow our property as well.

Once again, we are doomed by another storm taking a more northerly track at the last minute. It seemed like this happened every other week last winter.

The good news is that we have avoided the really cold arctic air (for now).

so, uh....where's this snow that everyone is talking about?

Where are you? Hartland is getting a ton of snow right now. Started out light, now it's heavy, the ground is pretty much covered and it's still coming down hard.
