Hardy vs Weeks defensively

logan82

Hardy was runner up (to Jimmy Rollins) for a 2008 Fielding Bible award for best MLB SS. He did lose by more votes than any other second place finisher, but it's certainly still worth noting that a 10 person panel that reads like a who's who among the SABR stats crowd (including Bill James, John Dewan, Rob Neyer, Tom Tango, and Joe Posnaski) thought he was the second best defensive SS in the majors in 2008.

Also of note from the plus/minus link in that article we find that Weeks was not in the worst 2B list. Cano, Kinsler, Castillo, Lopez, Durham and Kent were all worse than him at the very least.

And here is another link to ratings...

Weeks comes in at #14 with slightly positive defensive value as well.

PMRs have been released for MIs for 2008:

Besides showing that Vizquel should clearly be in someone's plans next year it has Hardy as the best everyday NL SS. It also shows that Aviles was very good in the AL. (Scutaro kind of gets screwed here because he's a full time player moving between 2B and SS). That said the difference between Hardy and the average SS is 3%. As for Weeks? He grades out at average while Durham is as bad as expected.
