Post Season discussion (beyond the Brewers)

The sporting gods are too cruel for the Sox to come back from a 3 - 1 deficit again. They allowed the Red Sox to win only to give them false hope.

Much like New England winning every game but the Super Bowl - karma is tipping the other way for Boston sports. Just watch, the Celtic will cruise through May and then Garnett will tear his ACL at a lobster boil.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

And am I just grouchy about Boston, or was the TBS crew practically rejoicing after that big home run?
Well, to be fair, it was pretty exciting, relatively speaking.

Although I did think Chip Caray's "Do you believe in miracles?" invocation was a bit of a farce: "Can the major-market nine-figure East Coast team come back at home against the mighty villainous Rays of St. Petersburg?!? Stay tuned!!!" Then again, I just hate Chip Caray.

Wow, remember when people said the Red Sox were "cursed"?

Well, here's hoping this is more like Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS (or Game 6 of the 1975 WS!) and less like Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. The smug cloud emanating from the Northeast in a Philadelphia-Boston World Series might kill us all.

Rays obviously aren't a playoff calibre team because we heard all year that playoff teams don't blow big leads. Even if they somehow get lucky and win 1 of 2 at home against the Red Sox who have all of the momentum now it will just be blind luck. Playoff teams step up in the clutch and get big hits like the Red Sox did.

Without the Brewers being in the playoffs at this point, I'm watching with the hope of seeing exciting games with dramatic finishes. I got that last night. It was fun to watch. Yes, I'm somewhat rooting for TB vs. Philly and then Philly to win the WS. However, if it ends up being Boston vs. Philly and Boston winning the WS, I'm not going to be heartbroken or be overly upset. Other than the Brewers, I really don't have any deep attachment or resentment towards (including the Cubs) any other team. I just want to see close, entertaining games.

Gross's lack of range shows it's ugly face again.
My son and I refer to anyone who eases up on a fly ball that it appears they may have been able to catch as "Gabe Grossing" it. It all stems from this 1st inning in a game we went to against the Cubs in August of 2006.

CUBS 1ST: Pierre flied to left; Izturis grounded out (first to

pitcher); Barrett doubled to center; Ramirez singled to center

[barrett scored, Ramirez to second (on throw)]; Jones homered

[Ramirez scored]; Murton singled to left; Mabry homered [Murton

scored]; Cedeno flied to left; 5 R, 5 H, 0 E, 0 LOB. Cubs 5,

Brewers 0.

My son (8 years old at the time), went ballistic because Gross was playing CF and seemed to not give his "full effort" on the Ramirez single to center. Which, as you can see, ended up contributing to an early 5-0 Cubs lead.

My son was already in bed last night when that single dropped in front of Gross in the bottom of the 7th, but he would have had a field day with it.

as long as they get back to the game and it's Boston 0 Tampa Bay 9, I'll be happy. Fat lot of good it did in game 5, but still . . . .

If I'm mad, I can't imagine people in Tampa and Boston.
I'd hate to imagine this board if something like this had happened to the Brewers.

Well, on the bright side, we're not seeing endless pans to Red Sox fans whooping it up in Tropicana Field.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

If TBS pulled this garbage during the NLDS during a Brewers game you bet I would be fuming. This is pretty bush league of TBS, how can you let this happen? I know it can happen but wouldn't you have prepared for all possible situations if something like this did happen?

Oh at least they are giving the 0-0 score. Thanks TBS.

I wish the playoffs were still on NBC. I loved when Costas called the games with Uecker and I believe Joe Morgan? I know a lot of people don't like Costas but I do, love his show on HBO his work on FNIA and he is a great baseball guy.

Yeah, something tells me TBS won't be showing anymore postseason games once their contract with MLB is done. We'll probably only miss a couple innings at most, but this isn't a regular season game. It's ALCS for god's sake.

No way would Ned of Dale have pinch hit for Gross in the bottom of the 5th. Zorbrist made an out, but at least the manager doesnt have blind faith in guys that are 0 for 10.

I'm guessing it was more the fact that Gross looked terrible in the field than anything else.
