Early Offense, Late inning Failures

Is it just me or are the Brewers getting a lot of their offense in the first few innings and then sitting on leads and not adding much insurance in the late innings? We did add an insurance run last night in the late innings, but there have been many games where we'd put up a good amount of runs in the first few innings and then sat on the lead.

Luckily, We've been winning most of those games so it hasn't been a problem, but what could be causing something like this?

OPS by inning with league average in ()

1).806 (.765)

2).710 (.711)

3).754 (.720)

4).843 (.761)

5).759 (.760)

6).899 (.794)

7).770 (.738)

8) .690 (.731)

9).733 (.666)

Not sure I see anything too wierd in there. We are actually doing decently in the 9th inning but pretty bad in the 8th.

numbers look pretty spot on to me when you guesstimate which innings the top and bottom parts of the lineup bat in normal games (i.e. games where the Brewers don't send 8 men to the plate in an inning five different times--like THAT would happen!)

RISP we are head of the league too .772 (.752) and with bases loaded 1.001 (.755). The one thing that stinks, is 2 out hitting .712 (.722)

The one thing to note, is the big July drop off. .724 (.754). Lowest of the season so far.

Is there a place to find runs scored by inning?

I'm guessing that over the course of a season, runs by inning do not vary a whole lot (other than the 9th inning being the lowest, since the home team does not alway bat in the 9th). Lately, it does seem like the early innings have been the most productive. It also seems like Braun hits a lot of 1st inning home runs, but that might be my imagination running wild.

Thanks, Sgt...

Runs by Inning

1st 68

2nd 41

3rd 42

4th 59

5th 52

6th 77

7th 60

8th 43

9th 27

Ext 9

So, the 6th inning is the only inning where the Brewers score more runs than they do in the 1st.

And, as you would expect, pickins are slim in the 8th and 9th, when the specialists are pitching (also, the home team doesn't always bat in the 9th).

Every since last year the Brewers have been very good at come from ahead losses.

They hold leads better this year, but they really haven't had many come from behind win's.

I thought I heard they haven't come from behind (to win) after the 7th at all yet this year.

Yeah it seems that way. I remember a few games where the game was tied and we walked off for a win, but I don't remember many late comeback wins. Anyone have anything on this?

I remember a couple of games in April where the crew was down, scored late runs to tie it, and then won in extras. One was in Florida (I think it was the game they finished the next day) and the other was in Chicago (with the wind blowing in and Prince hitting a homer or two anyway).

The entire league scores more in the first inning than any other inning. This is the time you're most likely to get to a starting pitcher, before they are fully warm and settle in. Aces seem to especially give up a decent chunk of their runs in the first inning compared to others.
