No way i'd throw the ball back. I have no doubt Mr. Ego would want the ball. My price to him - somewhere in the neighborhood of $1million and a public admission that he has used performance enhancing drugs, and I'd tell many, many media outlets exactly what my price is. Something tells me that would be a bit steep for him, but something else tells me I'd make out alright. Would be fun too.

It's so obvious that if you want to make lots of $$ off the ball yet you wanna throw it on the field, bring a baseball with you to the game and throw that one on the field when you catch 715/756. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Bonds hit in the face by a foul ball

San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds was hit in the face by a foul ball during batting practice this evening before the Giants' game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Bonds was waiting his turn to enter the batting cage as a batter swung and fouled the ball off the netting of the batting cage, driving the netting back and hitting Bonds in the face.

Bonds immediately yelled out an expletive, put his hands to his face and leaned back to lie on the ground. Bonds was immediately surrounded by trainers for the Giants, who began to talk to him to find out the extent of his injury. About three or four minutes later, Bonds sat up and was talking to the trainers.

He then got to his feet and was escorted to the clubhouse as video cameras recorded the scene.

At 6 p.m., the extent of his injury or whether Bonds would play tonight was not known.

The Giants are scheduled to play the Brewers at 7 tonight, with Bonds needing three home runs to surpass Babe Ruth's career total.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Moises Alou urinates on his hands. He said that 2 years ago (i think) when he was a Cub. He says it hardens the skin on his palms and has been doing this for quite some time. Notice how he never wears batting gloves? He also said his dad did not teach him this.

You mean he didn't say "Ow, that really hurt"??? Doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, cuz if you got nailed in the head with a baseball the first thing out of your mouth would be "ouch, that hurt"

Anyway you look at it, walking Bonds every time is much worse than just pitching to him. As great as Bonds is, he still makes an out over 50% of the time if not given gifts.

Here's one approach to determine when to walk Bonds:

It certainly doesn't capture all the variables but it's a heck of a lot more accurate than just assuming an intentional walk is always the best bet.

With the bases loaded and 2 outs in the top of the 9th with the Giants down 3, the author recommends walking Bonds http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

WOW. The FSN crew is aware of the fact that Bonds shouldn't be walkednearly as often as he it? They even showed the Giants winning % when Bonds is or isn't walked. He get's a bit more HR's when he's not walked but the Giants have a worse winning % in that situation.

Bill is agreeing right now but I guarantee the moment the game starts, he'll call for about 25 intentional walks.
