CC 6 years/$150 million DO IT NOW

The ESPN Insider article said that a big reason to keep CC is that he puts people in the seats. Mark Attanasio might break the bank just for that reason as attendance went up hugely after he came to Milwaukee.
I understand the point, but CC wasn't directly responsible for attendance. The Brewers were in a pennant race, and sold out most games- if CC was pitching that day or not. He was indirectly responsible, of course, because he played a large role in the playoff hunt. Bottom line, CC won't bring fans out just because he's CC. Fans will continue to come out at a 3MM pace if they keep WINNING.

Attendance was up big for his first mid-week start, but weekend games were close to sell outs for the rest of the year, and likely will be for more of next season as well regardless of if they sign him or not. Any attendance boost will not come close to making enough $ to justify the signing. This team will draw 2.4 million at the very minimum without Sabathia.

As I've said before, the only way Mark A. signs him is if he believes this team will win a World Series with Sabathia (and won't without him). You pretty much need a championship to increase the overall value of the team enough that he'll get that money he paid to CC back when he sells the team. The year-to-year financials don't matter nearly as much as how much he'll get when he "cashes out" down the road. Not real numbers, but he could lose $10 million each of the next 5 years, but if they win a WS, the team might be worth $50-100 million more than if they finish around .500 the next 5 years when he sells the team, and that increase covers those yearly losses.

It is not like Sabathia played every day. The Brewers sold out just about every game for a while there, we did not sell out only on days that CC was starting. The first couple of days that CC pitched alot of fans probably came out to see him in person, but after that I do not know how much he helps put people in the seats other than winning games.
