Didn't see this discussed anywhere else, so sorry if it was. I hadn't heard about it, probably because it involved two teams eliminated from contention.

 

If you missed it, Gary Sheffield got beaned during an at bat on Friday against the Indians. The pitcher made a pickoff throw to 1st, and at that point, Sheffield got angry and charged the pitcher, resulting in a brawl on the field. He was supsended for four games starting yesterday.

 

Rotoworld summed it up pretty well: "Sheffield started the melee by charging the mound from first base, yet he gets suspended for just one more game than Victor Martinez and Asdrubal Cabrera. It must be because of the sterling reputation he's developed during his career. Sheffield said he will begin serving the suspension immediately."

I believe he asked for a trade earlier this year because Leyland was using him as a DH. Sheffield insisted that he could still play outfield even though he is a terrible defender.

Sheffield needs to realize no one cares about him...

 

Easier said than done. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Go away Gary... please. Heck, with a .223/.321/.389/.710 (87 OPS+) line, you could argue he already has.

I can't find a quote online, but on FSN Final Score, they just said how Sheffield is now "vowing revenge." Their commentator even poked fun of him saying "Wow, Gary, if I said that to you, I'm sure you'd be filing a restraining order. Isn't that considered assault in some states?"

 

I can't believe this guy was my first favorite player as a kid.
