Direct TV HD upgrade question

if you can wait until 2009 (late 2009, I think), Directv is coming out with an HD receiver with Tivo technology, rather than their Directv brand DVR. I can't wait because that's my target date to get the whole rigamarole of HD stuff (TV, HD receiver, etc.) and replace my old stuff.

Huh -- I had not even thought of thought that -- I currently have Tivo -- how much better/worse is Tivo than other DVR services?
I have had both, there both fine I have no issues with either. Both of them work well and get the job done. I have the DirecTV model now, and I have for the last couple years.

How long have you been with DirectTV twist their arm a little, you might be able to get the dish/box for free. The dish is free your just paying for the box which is $200.

The HD DVR with TiVo won't be available until second half of 2009. The current DirecTV HD with DVR is worth it for the HD, but the DVR is nowhere near as good as TiVo. If you've already got TiVo, you will be disappointed by this DVR.

I have the DirecTV HD DVR it does what is suppose to do record my shows, so I have no problem with it.

I actually hate my Tivo HR10-250 and much prefer the newer DirecTV DVR's. Never had a missed recording in 2 years of running 2 of them (my lone remaining Tivo still occasionally misses a recording), faster interface, expandable hard drive, Picture in Graphic when veiwing guide or menus, on demand programming, 90 minute buffer vs. 30, the DLB work around is fine. I always turned off the Tivo suggestions which is about the only feature missing and it happens to be one I didn't use.

It all comes down to preference but the new HD DVR's seem to work fine for most people and like others have said the Tivo one won't be available until 2H09 which translates to 1H10.

As far as deals go you can play CSR roulette and see what you can get out of them. They keep offering to replace my remaining Tivo (MPEG2) receiver with a new one(MPEG4) for Free but I just haven't gotten around to switiching it out yet because the TV it is hooked to is not HD so it doesn't really matter and is only a spare bedroom DVR. I still have a SD DVR in the box in the basement I haven't hooked up yet either but they gave it to me for free when I moved this summer.
