New 1250 Lineup (Dan Patrick back in Milwaukee)

bthurley19
Just wondering what everyone thinks of the new lineup on 1250. I know I'm probably in the minority on this one but I miss Sparky in the midday. I try listening to Cliff but I can't take the guy. The Gary and Cliff show was okay but letting Cliff have his own show has caused me to find something else to listen to in the midday. The new Big Show with Sparky, Josh, and Gary in my opinion is great. Anyone else an avid 1250 listener and have an opinion?

i like sparky and listened to him occasionly when he was on 9-11. To be honest besides the brewers post game and jim rome i don't listen to nearly as much sportsradio as i did while younger. it just seems like the topics are very repetitive and i can only deal with so much packers talk. Rome is good because its a different type of show that doesn't seem to just take the hot item of the day and run it to the ground.

Ill agree that i cant stand listen to cliff or gary and now that they are separated, i stay away for the majority of the day.

I have mixed feelings on the new format. I used to like the gary and cliff show, I felt like they complimented each other quite well. I'm not sold on cliff having his own show, and the "big show" is growing on me a little bit. I think its just going to take a while to get used to the changes, but I do find myself listening to the D List (am 540) more often in the mornings now, as opposed to cliff.

I can only listen to so much sports radio now. I dont listen to any other stations besides 1250 however. I stayed away from 9-11 during Pfifer's days because there is only so much Favre hate that one can listen to. I think balancing Sparky with two others is great and I'm listening to "The Big Show" quite often. Doug Russell is great in the mornings.

the new lineup doesn't effect me much. i listen to doug&mike in the morning (favorite local wssp show tied with the baseball postgame show) while getting ready for work and while i'm driving to work.

i download rome's show every day and listen to it the next day at work, but if i'm ever out to lunch i will listen to rome.

i very rarely am able to listen to the midday show because of work, but i am able to catch some of the afternoon show.

bottom line is i liked gary&cliff and i do like the big show, but i prefer middays with sparky over midday with cliff

Doug Russell is great in the mornings.

When I worked in Milwaukee, this guy drove me nuts. I believe he's good, but I can't stand when he would really get upset at something and yell on the radio about it. I don't know if he still does it and his show isn't bad. I just recall him 'yelling' about players/coaches and their decisions in an effort to make a 'big' point. I wasn't a fan of that.

I don't think Doug yells much at all. Are you thinking of Peter Brown?

Nope. Maybe he doesn't do it anymore. I haven't listened to it in almost a year and a half. Maybe yelling is the wrong word. When the show first started when I lived in Wisconsin he would raise his voice and go on these rants to make a point. I wasn't a huge fan of that.

Cliff is just hard to listen to for me. He's OK when he talks about the Packers, but says a lot of stupid things about the Brewers and Bucks.

Cliff is the worst sports talk show host i've ever heard

When i listen to sports talk, i like Rome and Homer. The DList on 540 is solid also.

I really enjoy Josh Vernier. He's to the point, informed and concise. None of the theatrics that the other guys have. I also don't mind Cliff at all. He's quite a nice guy, too. I got a chance to meet he and Gary several times at the State Fair, their booth was right across from mine (Water Street Brewery) down there.

Totally agree on Rome and Homer. Rome is by far my favorite sports talk radio host ever. He is an aquired listen though I think as you either love him or hate him it seems. Homer is very good to. The other day Homer and whoever his producer is did a "skit" that was supposed to be a spoof of the court scene from "A Few Good Men" but it was Mark Attanasio on the stand being asked if he ordered the "Yost Firing". It was classic. "Did you order the YOST FIRING!"

Well I haven't been listening to 1250 since the Crew ended there season but I decided with the Bucks season starting up today I would check back in and see what the guys had to say. Looks like they have finally taken out the garbage (Cliff) and added the Dan Patrick show. I've always been a fan of Dan Patrick, so this is a good addition for me and getting rid of Cliff is addition by subtraction. Anyone know if Cliff is still with the station at all? From the looks of there web page it appears that he is gone completely.

Dan Patrick's head is bigger than the state of Mississippi. I would rather have local coverage, but like many have said, too much Packer talk is quite common in the Milwaukee market. I'm down with the Big Show, but I'd like to see Ellerson out of that slot. He mangles an already mangled language in ways that make me change the channel over to Homer and -that- my friends is no easy task.
-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

Wasn't Cliff Saunders the guy who was trying to pin the Dunn to Milwaukee stuff on Brewerfan?

I don't know. He was just the intolerable guy from New York on with the intolerable Gary Ellerson in the afternoon before they had an on-air fight and had to be split up. That's why they have "The Big Show" with Gary, Sparky and that other guy and why Cliff was on in Sparky's old spot.

I'm irritated by the format of the WSSP shows. Their shows are run by their callers, which IMO, brings little entertainment value. When you listen to sports AM stations in other markets (The Score in Chicago is a good one), the shows are dominated by a couple of dynamic personalities. It makes for much more entertaining radio.

I'm not too harsh on Gary because I used to know him, but he brings little to the show. I listen to the 2-6 pm show pretty often, but I missed the fight. What was the fight about?

I agree that 1250 relies too much on the callers. I mean of course you should have some callers and let the fans chime in. But in the end of the radio personalities need to carry the show. They are the reason people listen, not for the callers. I think ESPN Radio in Milwaukee does a little better job of this on their local shows. But the national shows Rome and Patrick are better on 1250 then M&M and Tirico on ESPN 540.

Dan Patrick is okay, but the things that are annoying about him are REALLY annoying.

He goes off on these preachy rants every so often that just are irritating. "C'mon, now Commissioner, you're BETTER than that". . .that kind of stuff. He drones on and on about some moral high ground about stuff that doesn't always need his moral supremacy.

He also can't tell a story that doesn't include himself.

Despite quitting ESPN, he sure uses them for a bunch of material. . .Nearly every day, he'll tell a story about "this one time, when I was doing SportsCenter. . ." or he'll complain about how much they're hyping the latest story-of-the-day.

And his interviews with black athletes, he will often yuk it up with them, inserting himself into the conversation (of course), and then quipping in a faux-blackness "I feel ya, dog", kind of schtick. It's just tiresome.
