The Office Season 5 thread

adamb100

Finally watched the premiere tonight. I'm glad that at least two of the subplots from the finale were cut off early (Pam & Jim, Holly thinking Kevin's "Special").

B.J. Novack (Ryan Howard) is not only one of the show's writer/producers, but he's also still in the opening credits....which I believe means he'll appear in a certain number of episodes (part of the SAG contract). I don't know where they'll put him, but he's not going away.

Like Mike Felder said, it's just too outlandish and stupid for him to have come back, unless it's setting up a "Michael never got permission and is gonna get in huge trouble, be demoted to sales, and Jim takes over" set up.

I don't think it is that outlandish -- I don't think the corporate office pays too close attention to temp hires by branch offices. Ryan would never show up on the payroll -- only as a generic invoice from the temp agency.

Certainly, there may be twists down the road -- but I don't think the bigwigs of DM would have the time or inclination to oversee a branch managers temp hires.

Maybe I missed it, but we don't know the father of Jan's baby right? That could be very interesting. Who knows, could end up being Kevin...Ryan...a warehouse guy....who knows. Toby would make it a perfect story, being Michael's arch rival. Not sure if he's back this season though.

Yea, I saw Toby at the end but still don't know if he'll actually be back for the season? Now that you say it, I do remember Jan's artificial insemination. But who knows, maybe she just told Michael that...and it's really Creed...or Andy...who knows?? That's a very fertile area for some good comedy if they went that route...

That episode was great. I kind of got disinterested in the Office during season 4, but this episode reintroduced it nicely. I loved Dwight hammering the fruit into the vending machine, plus Darryl was great during the weigh ins.

About the credits, they really need to introduce everybody or nobody. I really don't understand how Ryan needs a credit, but Dwight doesn't.

Toby at the end was a huge buzz kill. I don't know why they needed to show that.

I think it all depends on why they did it. If he's barely on the rest of the season, it wasn't a great idea. If it's just a scene to show he might be back on the show in some role, I like the move. We'll have to see what happens.

Please tell me that pun was intended.

I thought it was a great season premiere. I loved all the Creed stuff, specially his comment about Kelly's backside. Also the stuff with the facial hair was well done. And Michael explaining how Ryan came back as a temp and he would pay any price was quite funny. Gonna be a great season 5 of the best show on TV.

surprised that nobody had posted yet.

Very funny episode, overall, although the ending was dumb, in my opinion.

I was cracking up during the "Battlestar Gallactica" scene, though.

Best part of the episode in my opinion. The show is always better when Dwight and Jim are the focus.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

The Dwight stuff was the only thing funny for me. Maybe the Golden Shower comment, but it was pretty crude and many people don't even get it, I'm sure.

But I really only laughed when Dwight was "testing" the stroller. I wish they would have either (a) shown what the stroller looked like when he put it in the trunk, or (b) had a scene with Jan taking it out of the trunk back in NY, instead of the Jim and Pam phone call to end the episode.

People like to complain about the quasi - serious story lines but they really do add depth to the characters which pays off with bigger laughs in future episodes.

Although, I agree that a shot of the stroller would have been a good capper.

I love it when Michael butchers the english language.....maybe it was last week when he said "Catharctic".

Agreed 100% -- I was wondering if the melon survived all of Dwight's testing.

The picture scene with Andy was pretty funny as well.

Michael has got to be the father of Astird, right? I mean there is no other rational explanation for Jan attending a baby shower hosted by her ex-boyfriend, at the office where she used to be in charge, is there? The sperm bank story has to just be a story, because she doesn't want to tell Michael the truth?

And it was very strange to not have a shot of Jan discovering the stroller. Perhaps that story will arc to the next episode...requiring another appearance by Jan.
