Theblingster...I'm watching too hanging on every pitch even when I'm so frustrated with the lack of production from this team. What I'm disheartened about is the solid devotion from this fanbase this year potentially witnessing back-to-back years of end of the season collapses. They do not deserve this and even though I know every player on the team wants to win more than anything, it doesn't discount the choking that we've been witnessing lately and they have no one but themselves to blame if indeed the wheels come off this year.

It's a collapse because they have not seized on an opportunity to put this wild card away. They have "collapsed" by losing...after today...7 of 9 games (at home) and against not so stellar teams. It is a collapse because at the time of the year that hitting and timely pitching is an absolute necessity, they're barely getting more than one hit against AAA pitchers. I'm not the only one who sees the writing on the wall here especially when you see teams like the Mets, Phillies, and Astros playing like gangbusters right behind us.
Have the Cubs collapsed by not seizing the opportunity to put the division away? They've also lost something like 7 of 10 lately. Granted, they still have the wildcard to fall back on if they lost that division lead, but they're failing to capitalize just as much as the Brewers, IMO.

It stinks that they're not taking advantage of the situation, sure, but I always defined collapse as completely losing everything -- if the Cards/Phillies/Mets had won every day the Brewers lost lately and Milwaukee found themselves a few games back in the wildcard hunt, then yeah, that's a collapse. But they've lost only lost 1 or 1.5 games over this stretch, and they're not losing a game on Philly again tonight. Every day the Brewers spend atop the wildcard standings without losing ground is a positive thing to me. Sure, I'd love to blow these teams away in the chase and be able to coast into the playoffs, but it doesn't look like it'll happen. Regardless, the Brewers still have a better chance at reaching the playoffs than anyone else still in the wildcard hunt -- that's why I'm personally not too concerned. They've had stretches like this earlier this year where they struggle to hit, and then they come back to put things together again.

Wow. That's why you keep watching. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Why was Yost even considering Counsell as a pinch hitter? Just call on your best hitters to pinch hit. Counsell should be almost the last choice no matter what the situation is.

Especially with so many options off the bench now.

Counsell is a gritty veteran though, he should always get to bat.

I've made peace with the fact Ned won't use any young guys off the bench, nor will he use any relief pitcher not named Riske, Gagné, Mota, Shouse, or Torres when we have the lead. It is just what makes Ned, Ned.
