Mopping up on rotten teams

RU Rah Rah

There's been much discussion lately about the Brewers' apparent struggles against quality teams (Mets, Cubs, etc.). Just out of curiosity, I looked at the team's record against individual opponents, just to see how they got to 20 games over .500 (80-60). One of the things that struck me was how much of that margin is the result of their record against three awful teams:

Pirates: 11-1

Giants: 6-0

Nats: 6-2

The Brewers are a combined 23-3 against those teams -- and .500 against everyone else.

I guess this isn't incredibly shocking; it stands to reason that you're going to fare better against lousy teams. (The Cubs are 16 games over .500 against the Pirates and Braves, etc.) I guess I was just struck by how much of the Brewers' overall success has been based on basically annihilating those three also-rans.
