Poker Fans amongst us?

lcbj68c
I got into the poker craze when NL Texas Holdem and the WSOP popularity grew about 8 years ago. I used to do a lot of home games in Florida, but hadn't done anything yet since moving back. I was going through Fall cleaning and dusted off the old clay chip set and wondered how many BF.net users are still into poker and might be interested in hosting or attending some home games. I usually kept it cheap and did it tournament style but would do pot limit games as well if anybody is interested.

I play just about every Saturday night at a friend's house here in Vegas, he has a table that was at the Stardust hotel that we play on in his house. Good times to be had always.

Also I met Phil Ivey in an airport about 2 years ago while we were waiting to board a plane from LA to Vegas, I went up and introduced myself and shook his hand, asked where he was playing that night and he said the Bellagio (super nice casino here in town).

I don't play as much now as I used to, but I am still a poker fan.

I did pretty well for myself on-line, about 5 years ago. Then my first child was born and anytime I would try to play it would be trying to cram it in between naps, late at night, etc etc and because of that I couldnt play the way I wanted to, I ended up losing some $100 deposits. I am pretty well out of it these days.

If it were a winter thing, I'd play once in a while. Perhaps every other week or something? First and third Saturday nights of each month alternating houses or something? Just spit balling here folks...
-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

I play online almost daily, but the easy money of bonus chasing makes the money you make almost like work. I have not had a negative year, but I made $160 in '07, except for one $2K tourney win. That's about 16 cents an hour, if you take out the one good day.

Im used to playing a couple times a week during the summer, but since the group moved off too college I am stuck to only wed night poker with the gf's parents. Willing to play/host. I have a texas hold em table, 1300 chips, and a roommate that would also play.

I used to have a lot of success online but I decided to not go that route for a career and instead become a teacher... not sure what I was thinking. Oh well, count me in as interested if its in my area.

I used to play a lot when I lived in DC. I actually met Phil Gordon and Chris Ferguson at a free poker tournament and went out with them afterwards - fun story. But, I haven't played in about 3 years http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

If it were around the Green Bay area, I would be interested. I was actually at a tournament yesterday...was a mid-stack at the final table and goosed the big stack into making a call (after he limped) with A-10 off pre-flop, after the short stack pushed for about 10 big blinds (I had about 45 big blinds, and the big one had about 180 big blinds). I show aces and after a flop of K-2-3 rainbow, the short stack mucks. The turn and river....10-10. I then go outside, and find that I also have a flat tire. Good times.

Online poker is legal. Funding it is more difficult, but obviously, as easy as buying something online.

With the legislation that was passed, there was nothing said about the playing online, only the funding. However, it was reported haphazardly and many folks did not know what really happened.

Poker Stars had 150K folks on it the other night, and growing.

i was really good at online tournaments of any size, but don't have the patience to stay off of cash tables, so i don't ever play online.

live is different, though. i hesitate at saying i played professionally, but it was 90% of my income for, oh, about a year in the Madison area. though the past couple years the cops have started cracking down and a lot of the games are gone.

i'm in North Carolina now. I go to school full-time, but am going to play poker for extra income whenever I can. it's kind of the middle of the desert for casinos around here, but I drive 5 hours to the Myrtle Beach area to play on a casino boat.

been playing for about 8 years and have done fairly well. I don't get into the high-stakes stuff because i can't afford to lose that much, and i've found 1-2 NL to be right where I want--losses are about $300 and wins are about $1000.

it might be fun to set up a private Brewerfan.net table on one of the free sites and get some games going.

i haven't set up an account yet, but i've heard the cash sites are still easy to get on. that basically you're prevented from entering your information online now, but now for most places you just have to call and give them your credit card number.

speaking of poker, has anyone ever played at the casino in Wheeling, West Virginia? i'm probably headed there in two or three weeks. sadly, it's the closest poker-playing casino near me in North Carolina. It's six hours away and Tunica, Biloxi and AC are all nine hours.

It seems like everyone here is all spread out. We should definitely get a private tourney or two going in the winter months. Donate some of the buy-in to the site.

I'm not questioning anyone's credibility here, but it's funny, almost everyone I've ever talked to about poker claims they're a winning player. Where do the losing players come from?

I no longer play online, but like others have said, the games in 04, 05, and 06 were very profitable. I started with $12 on the now defunct pokerroom and made some nice extra cash for a college student. With a little bit of luck. 5 handed, $55 sit n' go's with a $250 bankroll FTW!

The losing players do not mention how they do.

losing players talk about how much they've made in particular hands, winning players talk about how much they've made in a year.

i keep track of every single penny win or lose. i believe it's checkyourbets.com that i've liked in the past. even if i buy a $3 drink, that counts as part of the loss. gas, too. the website is basically a spreadsheet to chart your progress, $/hour, stuff like that. i like to use it because it's too easy to convince yourself that you're at least breaking even. when i played in Wisconsin, i also kept a separate savings account specifically for poker. that way i wasn't being an idiot and dipping into rent or grocery money.

some of the people who keep buying in are amazing. they're just there to have fun and the money means nothing. drug dealers are like that, too--it's extra nice when you take their money. i play a lot in Little River, on a casino boat near Myrtle Beach. it's a ton of retired doctors and lawyers, and they are an inexhaustible source of $100 bills.

Pedro might be up to hosting a game in the Milwaukee area; I've got the table, the chips, and a fully stocked bar. I normally host a monthly STT during the winter months. If we got 9-10 people, I might be able to talk my wife into hosting another occassionally. I'm pretty much a no-limit STT player, so I'd like to go that route, but I'm flexible.

I'll buck the trend and say that I am a losing online poker player. Originally, I was very good. I used to use Pacific Poker and my first two deposits I put in $50 and cashed out $500.00 after about 3 weeks of play. So I was net +900 after about 6 weeks. Then the govt. decided to limit transcations with US banks and Pacific Poker shut down. I went over to Full Tilt and had nothing but losses after losses. I've probably lost -900 or so, maybe more. So I'd say in general, minus those first 6 weeks, I've lost, though it's taken me 2 years or so to lose it all back. I think that I play appropriately, I just get a horrible run of cards on most occassions.

That said, I am a winning poker player when it comes to live games. Over the past two years, home games and sit n go's at Hard Rock in Tampa, I'd say I'm around +2000 in the past 4 years.
