topics / replies per page preference now a Supporter feature

I've had both of these set at 100 for a while and my profile reflects this, however this morning I can only see 25 for each, even though my settings are unchanged. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying to have to flip through so many pages.

Anyone else encountering this?

I'm on IE6 at work, with no other option.

As of last night (I guess), you now need Yuku Supporter to be able to adjust the topics/replies per page preference on an account by account basis:

New Supporter Feature: Number of Topics and Replies Per Page Setting

This came without warning, which is annoying. But even so, Yuku Supporter is a good deal, both for the member and for Brewerfan.

Are you sure you're seeing 25 of each per page? Brewerfan's defaults are set at 20 and the announcement says you should be seeing 20.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Just to make sure everything is straight, I should point out this error in Yuku's announcement.

Quoth the announcement:
Non-Supporters see 20 topics per page and 20 replies per page.
Actually, non-Supporters see the number of topic/replies per page set by each board. It happens that Brewerfan and LambeauLeap are set to 20/20 anyway, though.

We still have the option at the board level to change the number of topics or replies that members see. With Yuku Supporter, members can override those settings within their account preferences.

If the forum is billable by the number of pageviews wouldn't it be more beneficial for the default replies per page to be set to the maximum, thus minimizing the total pages to be viewed?

I'm not necessarily advocating for change here, I'm just curious, that's all.

As far as I can remember, the Brewerfan/LambeauLeap default settings are something that's never been discussed, either among the mods or the members. 20 posts per thread page and 20 threads per forum page happen to be Yuku's defaults.

I had always figured that if the subject came up, we could change these default settings based on members telling us different numbers would be more convenient, but I never thought of it in terms of cost. It's certainly a factor to consider. After all, funds do come from the membership. Now that we can jump to the first new message in a thread, finding the newest post is less of a factor than it would have been before.

Of course, we wouldn't want to blow out dialup members. But I can tell you that I have dialup at home, and I'm set to 30 posts per thread page and 40 threads per forum page. I find 30 posts per page to be a decent number. I don't notice extra load time, and it saves me the hassle of waiting for more click-throughs. Picture-laden threads can be a hassle no matter how many posts per page one is at, but that's just the nature of the beast.

A higher number of threads per forum page wouldn't affect cost: we only pay for page views on thread pages. It might be more convenient, however, not to have to click as often to go back a couple of days.

By the way, I know that a handful of members would choose to view 1,000 posts per thread page if that setting were available. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
