This is a fantastic move by Narron... he's using his best reliever in a non-save situation that nonetheless is really important. You wouldn't think it'd be rocket science, but I'd guess 90 percent or more of MLB managers wouldn't be doing this.

Are we trying to make our young pitchers "feel good" or are we trying to win a ballgame? If Ned thinks he's still doing his thing out there, then let the man pitch.

This is why Ned Yost is the manager, and not some yahoo fan. Yost realizes he needs to give his bullpen a rest after Sunday's game in which they threw a ton of innings, and Jackson wasn't getting his brains beat out, ala Eveland or Hendrickson.

What innings.. he burnd up Capellan yesterday... so that means he has 7 other pitchers to use.. that said.. I have no problem letting Jackson pitch through it.. my only problem with Yost is letting "tired" pitchers continued.. it is one thing to give up a HR another to walk 2 guys to set up a rally..

Of course, right on cue it horribly backfires.

Unlike some confusion by BF.net members on what a great at bat is.. that is an example.. battles and battles and the end result is not a strikeout..

I wish we (meaning Joe Public) had access to detailed play-by-play defensive data... it would be fascinating to look at the charts and crunch the numbers.

Well, PMR uses detailed PBP data. According to that metric, he was pretty averagish.

He made almost 20 more outs than an "average" CF would have last year, which is pretty high. That doesn't seem to translate into a high number of runs saved, however.

I was hoping I'd jinx him! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

If Narron had brought in the rotting corpse of Chris Hammond or the sucking chest wound that is Rick White, they probably would have gotten out of it unscathed.

Good decision, Cincy!

Why in the world is Shouse in there vs. a righty who has an OPS over 1.000 vs LHP! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

Edit: Well he had a 1-2-3 inning, but I think Ned really lucked out there.
