Gindl is making a late statement to move up the Power 50 as a top flight prospect with performance and upside. Though he is going to have to work on the K rate (not a problem when you get a hit every AB of course)

Gindl's continued hot streak gets rewarded tonite with news that he's going to Hawaii! Also learned today that if Lakewood and the Power end in a tie, there will be a one game playoff here in WV....evidently they had a coin toss on that and the Power won! Tonite was Ronald McDonald House Nite at Power park....updated a few new Power photos to my photo albums www.jdblackwell.shutterfly.com Lucas Leutge with another nice outing tonite http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/09935a319b457586e4b9c2b4ee89401616f8a56.jpg

John, great photos as always! Still love the Dallas Cheerleade shots via your link above.

Here's the direct link to last night's slideshow -- notice in the description for each John has placed the players' name.

It's all about the Power for us here, as their playoff chase is hot (and they were the only farm team to win Friday night).

Final: West Virginia 5, Asheville (Rockies) 4

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

GINDL AND RAMLOW SHINE IN POWER VICTORY

Mike Ramlow tossed four and a third scoreless innings of relief at Appalachian Power Park on Friday night while Caleb Gindl went 3-for-4 and hit his fourth homer of the series as the West Virginia Power avoided the sweep with a 5-4 victory over the Asheville Tourists.

Asheville took an early lead in the top of the first. Lars Davis and Kevin Clark ripped back-to-back one-out singles and Darin Holcomb reached on a fielder's choice to score Davis. Logan Schafer belted a two-out single in the third to score Matt Cline, tying the game at 1-1. The Power took their first lead of the series one inning later when Gindl scored on Holcomb's fielding error.

Asheville plated three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead again. David Christensen began the inning with a double and scored on Warren Schaeffer's two-bagger. Holcomb's two-out base hit scored Schaeffer to give Asheville the lead and Clark scored the final run of the inning on Eric Farris's fielding error. Eric Fryer and Steffan Wilson started the sixth inning on back-to-back singles before Gindl ripped a three-run homer to put the Power on top for good, giving him a home run in every game of the series. It was Gindl's 13th of the season.

Ramlow (5-3) was brilliant over four and a third scoreless innings of relief. He retired the first 11 batters he faced, allowed just one hit and fanned two in a winning effort. Cory Riordan (8-9) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits over seven innings.

The Power improved to 72-58 on the year and 40-21 in the second half with the win. The Tourists fell to 80-51 on the year and 33-28 in the second half with the loss. Gindl's three-hit performance extended his hitting streak to eight games. He was the only Power player with a multi-hit game. He has scored a run in eight straight games and he has knocked in at least one run over his last five. Eric Fryer reached once on a single to bring his on-base streak to 31 games. West Virginia gained a game on the Lakewood BlueClaws, who were defeated by Lake County on Matt McBride's walk-off three-run homer in the ninth inning.

The Power will begin a four game series against the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park on Saturday night. The Power will start right hander R.J. Seidel (8-5, 4.94). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Final: Round Rock (Astros) 5, Nashville 4

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Link for new Ozzie Chavez photo, text follows --

NASHVILLE - The Round Rock Express jumped out to an early five-run lead and held on for a 5-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Friday evening in front of 6,083 fans at Greer Stadium.

The Express took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Troy Cate on Danny Klassen's two-out RBI double to right that scored J.R. Towles.

Round Rock increased its advantage to 5-0 in the second. Chris Johnson and Yordany Ramirez opened the inning with back-to-back triples before Express pitcher Josh Muecke helped his own cause with a bloop RBI single to shallow center. A walk to Towles and a Mark Saccomanno single loaded the bases before Cate walked in a run by issuing a two-out free pass to Klassen, the 22nd bases-loaded walk issued by Nashville pitching in 2008. The Express added their fourth run of the frame when Towles scampered home from third on a Cate wild pitch.

The Sounds got on the board in the second inning when Vinny Rottino was hit by a Muecke pitch to start the frame and later scored on a Carlos Corporan sacrifice fly to make it a 5-1 contest.

Nashville added a second run in the fourth. Shortstop Adam Heether, who went 2-for-4 on the evening to extend his longest hit streak of the season to eight games, led off with a double and moved to third on a Chris Woodward single before scoring on Ozzie Chavez's RBI single to center. Woodward's knock in the frame extended the veteran infielder's hitting streak to seven games, matching his longest of the year.

Chavez, who paced all batters with a 4-for-4 evening, pulled the Sounds within a run at 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth when he belted his third home run of the year, a one-out, two-run shot off Muecke that also scored Woodward.

AUDIO: Ozzie Chavez Two-Run HR

The Sounds missed an opportunity to tie the game in the home half of the seventh after Tony Gwynn reached third with only one out. After Muecke walked Joe Dillon to put runners on the corners, right-hander Nick Regilio took over on the Round Rock hill and induced a first-pitch, inning-ending double play grounder from Rottino to squelch the threat.

Callix Crabbe singled off veteran reliever and former Milwaukee Brewer Ray King in the ninth inning for Nashville to extend the club's longest active hitting streak to 10 games, just the second double-digit hit streak by a Sounds player all season.

Muecke (8-11) picked up the win for the Express after allowing four runs on nine hits and fanning five batters over 6 1/3 innings of work.

King worked a scoreless ninth for Round Rock to notch his fifth save of the year.

Cate (2-3) took the loss after he allowed five runs on seven hits in his four innings of work for the Sounds.

The teams continue the series with a 6 p.m. meeting on Saturday evening. Left-hander Lindsay Gulin (6-7, 3.84) will toe the rubber for Nashville and face Round Rock right-hander Jack Cassel (8-4, 3.40).

Nashville Box Score

Adam Heether and his .828 OPS with two more hits, you have to figure he'll see at least some big league time in '09 if he continues to show he's capable at shortstop as well as second and third...

Final: Birmingham (White Sox) 3, Huntsville 2

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Dramatic Win For Barons in Ninth

Stars Drop Fourth In a Row In a Heartbreaker

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Brandon Allen belted a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift Birmingham to a 3-2 comeback victory over Huntsville Friday night in the last of a five-game set at Regions Park. The Barons improved to 31-28 in the second half with their second walk-off win of the set, while the Stars fell to 27-33 in the second half and 68-62 overall. The Barons won 10 of the 14 games to claim the season series and have won the season series from the Stars in 12 of the last 14 campaigns.

David Johnson retired the first two hitters in the bottom of the ninth before Allen drilled a 1-0 offering over the wall in right-center field for his 10th home run with the Barons and 25th overall on the season. He hit a home run in each of the last three games and handed Johnson his first loss since May 15 at home against Carolina. Johnson, who also gave up the tying run in the eighth inning, had allowed only two runs in his last 34 2/3 innings over 21 appearances.

Michael Brantley opened the game by reaching on a throwing error by first baseman Freddie Thon and came into score when Alcides Escobar followed with a triple into the right field corner. Mat Gamel drove in Escobar with a ground ball out to make it 2-0 and knock in his league-best 96th run.

Barons' starter Lucas Harrell was taken out with runners at first and second in the seventh and replaced by Joe Torres, who retired Brantley on a shallow fly ball before Escobar legged out an infield hit to load the bases. Gamel then flied out to the warning track in right field to end the frame. Harrell allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out three in his ninth start with Birmingham. Kanekoa Texeira tossed two scoreless innings to grab the win and improve to 3-2.

Alex Periard blanked the Barons on two singles and allowed only one runner to reach second base through six innings. Lee Cruz was hit by a pitch to open the seventh, moved to second base on a Javier Castillo single and reached third on a fielder's choice grounder by Allen that chased Periard from the game. Johnson took over and got Thon to bounce into a force out at second that plated Cruz with the home team's first run. Periard was charged with that lone run on three hits, while walking one and fanning four in his longest outing with the Stars.

Erick San Pedro led off the eighth inning with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Stefan Gartrell, who moved to second base on a ground ball out, to third on a deep fly out and scored to tie the game on a passed ball by Martin Maldonado.

The Stars return home Saturday to begin a five-game series with Carolina with right-hander Jeremy Jeffress taking the hill Mudcats' southpaw Aaron Thompson. Coverage begins at 6:50 pm central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com and www.730ump.com.

It just doesn't matter who the Stars place on the mound at the end of games this season, it seems; fantastic bounceback outing for Alex Periard...

Helena Independent Record:

Brewers strand nine in shutout loss

The Pioneer League baseball playoffs continued to slip away from the Helena Brewers as they lost 5-0 to Billings Friday at Dehler Park.

The Mustangs tagged Helena starter Nick Tyson for all five runs in his four-plus innings and had a trio of pitchers combine to record 13 strikeouts.

Tyson dropped to 1-3 on the season, while Billings starter Oscar Castro improved to 3-2.

Helena got a pair of hits from infielder David Fonseca and Brock Kjeldgaard hit his 23rd double of the season, but the Brewers stranded nine runners on base.

Designated hitter Derrick Alfonso struck out four times.

Helena reliever Rico Salmon took over for Tyson in the fifth inning and struck out five batters in three innings. Adam Arnold pitched a scoreless eighth.

The Brewers dropped to 7-17 in the second half, while Billings improved to 13-9.

The one bit of good news Friday involved Missoula scoring a pair of runs in the 10th inning to beat Great Falls 4-2. The Great Falls loss, combined with the Billings victory, kept the Mustangs in a first place in the Northern Division. If Billings, the division winner in the first half of the season, wins the title in the second half, the team with the second best overall record would qualify for the playoffs.

Helena trails Great Falls by four games in the overall standings with the teams meeting four straight games beginning Sunday in Great Falls.

The Brewers return to Kindrick Legion Field Tuesday.

Final: Arizona Athletics 4, Arizona Brewers 2

Arizona Box Score

Some small gains by pitchers who have been struggling, as Ben Jeffers, Rolando Pascual, and Shane Hill had decent outings -- Hill did hit three batters (no walks, five K's); catcher Shawn Zarraga on base three times, nailed one of two runners at second base...

Arizona Game Log

Starter Luis Guerrero went only two innings, he had been stretched to four and even five earlier, perhaps it was pitch count in the second inning, hopefully he's fine...
