I was at the game with number one son, and of course, had a great time.

I see on the thread some thought Uke overcalled the almost Lee, and Cirillo shots. I can tell you they both looked way gone, and most were surprised when they came up short. Closed roof may have been a factor. (Anybody else wonder why the left field panels were open, with right field closed?)

Zack worked very slowly, and gave up some hard hits. However, when he got his outs, he really showed some great pitches. We should stick with this guy a while.

In the ninth, after Gross's double, I think everyone in the joint felt we would win. The Karma was very positive, it just seemed inevitable!

I too was at the game. I found parking was quick and easy, but I did get there a little over an hour before game time(and chose premium parking). What a memorable day with my dad. And I too agree there was a karma there in the 9th inning. You could just feel we were going to win, and we deserved it after those two "almost" home runs. The air was definately thick in that crowd of 43,000 some people, I'm sure they would have been homers if the roof was open. Overall that was the best game Brewer game I have been to.

Nice win today. You couldn't have scripted it better with a walkoff by Lee.

Gotta hand it to Gonzalez and the rest of the pen. Zack Jack was getting knocked around (and got out of some major jams) and it was nice to see that the pen could keep us in it.

Good game, I went and had a lot of trouble getting coming from Madison. It was over a two and a half hour drive with the traffic and parking problems. We didnt sit till the top of the 3rd so that was dissapointing. Anyway, like everyone else has said, in the 9th we were winning, no doubt. Random thoughts: Cirillo's bomb looked way gone off the bat but I didnt think Lee's was. Maybe it was good to have the bullpen work a little, they have had a lot of time off and we have a lot of arms out there that need work. Geremi G. looked very good today and Shouse looked unhittable to lefties. The crowd was lathergic in my opinion till the 9th when the place came alive. Lastly, Price Fielder will be a 50 HR threat yearly, if he so chooses.

I loved after the homerun call on the radio that there's crowd noise, and Uke makes his horse noise....perfect.

I heard that on the radio this morning and was moderately disappointed that it's *not* archived on mlb.com or brewersradionetwork.com.

I've forgotten who put together that sweet piece of audio highlights over the off season (sorry), but I've noted several exciting moments and finishes that so far appear to be shoo-ins for the 2006 audio highlights.

I "saw" the end of Sunday's game on Gameday as my niece's birthday party wound down. I watched with my six year old nephew who was hoping that Gameday would show Bernie going down the slide. Alas.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Great win! Very fun. Wondering why Ned didn't hit for Moeller in the 8th?

1) Using a pinch hitter doesn't guarantee a run is scored.

3) You use up two pinch hitters (the guy who hits for Moeller and the guy who hits for the pitcher)

2) If you don't score a run, or you give up the lead in the top of the 9th, you play the rest of the game without a backup catcher and you have used an extra pinch hitter.

What a spectacular game.

This is what boggled me (aside from Moeller reaching for new levels of ineptitude and incompetence):

After Sizemore tripled, Perez hit a deep fly ball to Jenkins in right. I know there is not a lot of foul territory out there - but from my angle - it appeared to be drifting foul.

The ball was hit deep. Jenkins had a negative 5.8% chance of throwing out the tagging runner. He caught it. The run scored easily.

Question 1: Can anybody with a good angle or TV broadcast replay confirm/deny the ball was going to land fair?

Question 2: If Geoff is tracking the fly and his bottom peripheral vision tells him he's in foul territory, does he let the ball drop? I do.

I'm not willing to trade an out for a run... that's a recipe for being down by 27 every game.

It is all about context of course (say we're 'away'), but if it's tied in the bottom of the 9th, do you make that same play and hope for the lasar beam of all lasar beam throws?

Jenkins made the absolute correct play there, especially considering it was in the 4th inning. You give up the run, and use the next 6 times you bat to make up for it.

The last thing you want is to let it drop foul, then the batter gets a hit or reaches base and opens up a big inning. Take the out, give up the run, move on.

Now, if it's the bottom of the ninth as you propose, and it's a tie game, you let it drop if you know it will land foul, and if you have less than a 50% chance of throwing him out in your mind.

Here, you then have a better chance of your pitcher working out of the situation, plus if they score, you have no chance to win.

If it happens in the top of the ninth, it's a little trickier because you do have one more at-bat, but if you let it drop foul, you're still risking opening up the floodgates

Ok, Chis I understand that. I guess I think the odds of needing the 3rd Catcher are low(I'm sure Billy Hall can do everything!). Just in that spot i know you are rolling the dice a bit, but it is a chance to win too. If we fear ever hitting for Moeller, maybe we need to add a utility guy that could catch in a pinch, or at least anotehr postion player for another bat. Maybe the call up of Vinny would solve this.

I'm sure the odds of needing a third catcher are low. And chances are really good that if Miller comes into the game he doesn't get hurt. But, if he does, that position is so specialized and so important that having to throw out a non-catcher is really, really scary. It's probably scarier to Yost, who's a catcher himself and as manager has to at least keep those sort of emergancy situations in mind.

Yost was probably thinking something he didn't need to roll the dice because he had other things going for him even if Moeller failed in that spot:

1) If Moeller doesn't get it done, there is still a decent chance Cirillo will.

2) If they don't score at all in the 8th, he's bringing Turnbow in. They aren't gonna get any runs, which means they have the top of the order in the 9th in a tie game.

If Yost is thinking like that, combine what was said about not losing a backup catcher, and its not a bad choice.

I don't think the decision to leave Moeller in is a no-brainer. And, you're right, if Miller gets in for a few innings, it's probably not the end of the world. I think Yost handled it correctly, but I wouldn't have complained if he went the direction you suggested.
