6/19/06 Tigers (Bonderman) @ Brewers (Davis), 7:05 PM CST

I guess that game shows why the Brewers are not ready to make a serious run for the playoffs. Blowing a good game once in a great while happens to everyone. Unfortunately, the Brewers blow games with crap defense and than a garbage performance by the bullpen than most teams in the majors.

Tough break Sharpie, tough break.

And I think that is probably why they have no choice but to trade Carlos, as much as I love him. I wish Jenkins could stop sucking (last night notwithstanding) for long enough to bring his trade value up from somewhere between zero and nil.

Dmiles I don't think that anyone here will argue with you that our defense stinks. But I am a little confused on why and how you are trying to excuse the bullpen from blame here.

I'm not trying to excuse the bullpen... but look at all the posts, and I don't think anyone up until me mentioned anything about the defense. It was all "Wise is terrible" and "Our bullpen sucks." And I come on and say that if the defense picks up the pitcher... he could very well have gotten out of that jam.

And not to mention our offense has been pretty bad latelly. We've had some good pitching lately. Does anyone remember yesterday's game where the pen came in and pitched 6 stellar innings? Wise has thrown 12 pitches in the last week. Think that has anything to do with his troubles?

Sigh. I know. It doesn't help knowing that he's kind of used to it. That hatred I developed over too many poor outings for relievers like Doug Henry, Mike Fetters, Mike DeJean...is starting to germinate for Matt Wise.

Well, at this point last year the Brewers were 32-39 and 13 games out. Does that mean it could be worse?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Some might argue that with such a light workload he would have no excuse whatsoever to come out with absolutely no command of his pitches. Had he pitched 20+ pitches for 2 or 3 nights in a row I might blame his workload.

Or, do his troubles have something to do with his throwing 12 pitches? He hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliable.

Well that was a frustrating game, but very well fought except for some lucky/perfect bunts in one bad inning.

Sorry to see everyone who thought the Brew Crew had a shot at the wild card 12 hours ago are jumping ship again because they lost to the best team in baseball.

A few weird strategic moves in this game. I would have had Davis IBB Inge after it was 2-0 with the man on second, pitcher on deck, and two outs. But he came back and got the out, leaving the pitcher for the next inning. Then when Jenkins was on second with two outs, I don't know if I would've walked Brady Clark to get to a pinch hitter... but Weeks eventually had an accidental ground out with the bases loaded and that worked out too. Oh well, I wouldn't be able to handle being a manager.

I'm not ready to jump ship at all. We hung tough with the best team in the majors tonight and have 2 more shots. If I remember right, we went 3-3 against the Mets, the best NL team and hung tough in each game, I believe.

We all could play the woulda-coulda-shoulda game with regards to Wise and the defense. Gotta hand it to Leyland for using his NL instincts and playing small ball. Back-to-back awesome bunts that both fielders should have just held onto--not much you can do about that but our fielders chose to throw them instead. Oh well, life goes on.

Of course, I'm still unsure if Leyland bunts if Wise did hold onto the ball and keep the runner at first. Probably would have, but who knows.

We'll get 'em tomorrow--or do our best to try.

I'm not happy about losing any game, but this one really irked me. We won the battle of the starting pitchers in a hotly contested game through the seventh. If I sound cliche, sorry, but good teams don't have their bullpen fall apart in the 8th in these types of games. Matt Wise has fallen apart, and he and the defense couldn't put away the 8-9-1 hitters in the lineup. They couldn't even allow them not to go ahead, or go ahead by more than one. I'm sorry, but if your starting pitcher leaves his heart and soul out on the field for your team to win, you do more than that to pick him up. Matt Wise sucked, and Capellan shouldn't be much less to blame. That's just not acceptable for a playoff-contending ball club. Even if they got into the playoffs, the Brewers would exit early if they can't get stuff like this together.

Glad to see there is some sanity still in some Brewer fans. Sure it would have been nice to win the game and they probably should have. They probably should have lost a game or two this weekend against Cleveland too and everyone, including me, was pumped about the weekend.

It amazes me with the roller coaster of emotions some posters have on this site.

If they go in the tank and lose eight in a row again, then we all reason to be upset.

I thought Davis really deserved the win last night and I knew the runs were gonna be hard to come by for the offense. I thought that when Fielder hit that home run we had the game won... that is until they showed Wise warming in the pen.

My first thought was oh no... he hasn't been good in cluth situations... and I was right. I was so hoping I was gonna be wrong. I was wrong with Jenkins the other night... I loved being proved wrong.

Our pitching has been getting better as of late... we hung in there with the best last night and we still have a shot at a series win. Let's go Crew and Helling tonight!

Thunder there is plenty of sanity here. If you have been around awhile you know the people that are the actual fans of the team. These people who are irked and upset and any other adjective can be ignored really. Baseball is a long season and you can get swept by the pirates and the come back and sweep the tigers. But we lost one game and people want wise traded and now the season is over. Just let it go.

Just to respond to one thing. Saying good teams bullpens blah blah blah. Good teams have bullpens with pitchers that give up runs as well. i.e. Mariano Rivera. So please stop with those awful sayings. Believe it or not, other teams give up runs and are not perfect. Please give us a break.

I thought right away... why isn't Capellan in there instead of Wise... Wise has struggled his last few time when he was placed in the game with a lead only to give it up.

ah... sarcasism... I missed that in End's response.
