Look forward to Lucas "With the Lid Off" Luetge's start today. He's had a nice run to start his pro career.

Final, Game One: Brevard County 5, St. Lucie (Mets) 0

Brevard County Game One Box Score

LHP Chris Cody scattered eight hits in a seven-inning complete game shutout, walking only one and striking out six; clean defense behind Chris helped; seven of the nine Manatee starters had at least one hit; Brent Brewer and Jonathan Lucroy drove in two apiece, Brewer on base three times; Mel Stocker two hits including a double...

Brevard County Game One Game Log

Chris Cody will be 25 in January -- pencil in the super-effective soft-tosser into Huntsville's rotation to open '09 -- no, you can write it in ink; his 2008 numbers at West Virginia and Brevard here, wow...

I think Cody has earned a promotion - not sure what his innings limit is but he's killing the FSL and needs another challenge.

It seems like the Brewers have a bunch of "good numbers but limited ceiling" type pitchers all of a sudden (Cody, Bramhall, etc). I hope a few can prove the scouting reports wrong.

Luetge with another nice start. 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 K's. It is nice to have some college arms pitching well this year with Wooten and Luetge looking really good. The young high school arms Ordrizzi, Lintz, and Scarpetta (who I am just acting like was in this draft) have great potential, but are obviously a little ways away.

Final: West Virginia 5, Greenville (Red Sox) 2

And just like that, the division lead is back to three -- fantastic...

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT

Eric Fryer drove in three runs and Lucas Luetge tossed six strong innings at Fluor Field on Sunday evening as the West Virginia Power won their fourth game in a row, defeating the Greenville Drive 5-2.

Fryer gave West Virginia an early lead on a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. The blast was his tenth of the season. Fryer struck again in the third inning, driving in Eric Farris on an RBI groundout to give the Power a 3-0 lead. Greenville scored their first run of the game on Oscar Tejada's two-out RBI double in the fourth.

The Power added a pair of big insurance runs in the eighth inning. Fryer began the inning with a base hit and scored on Zelous Wheeler's double off the mini monster in left field. Caleb Gindl scored the next run on a wild pitch. The Drive plated their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning on Jered Stanley's solo home run.

Luetge (2-1) tossed six strong innings, allowing just a run on six hits and fanned four in a winning effort. Reed Dickert (3) struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the save and Jose Capellan (3-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over five innings.

The Power improved to 70-55 on the year and 38-18 in the second half with the win. The Drive fell to 64-61 on the year and 24-31 in the second half with the loss. Three Power players turned in multi-hit games and all nine batters reached at least once. Logan Schafer paced the Power with a 3-for-5 performance. Fryer went 2-for-5, giving him five straight multi-hit games.

The Power will finish the four game series against Greenville Monday night. The Power will start right hander R.J. Seidel (7-5, 5.23) and the Drive will counter with right hander Terumasa Matsuo (5-4, 4.59) The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM (6:00 Central).

West Virginia Box Score

You can debate how many big-time future major leaguers will come from this squad, but there is no doubt they have come together to be an absolute force within this minor league second half season, firing on all cylinders...

Final: Orem (Angels) 9, Helena 5

Helena Site Game Summary:

Brewers Swept

The Helena Brewers lost their fourth straight game to the Orem Owlz 9-5 and were swept in the season series in the process.

For the Owlz, the win gives them their 14th straight and runs their record to 16-4 in the second half. The Brewers fall to 6-14 and remain in third place behind the Great Falls Voyagers.

The Brewers started out hot as they plated four runs in the first inning with a double by David Fonseca and singles by Erik Komatsu, Brock Kjeldgaard and Chris Dennis. Orem would answer back in the top of the third inning, as the Owlz would score six runs on four singles, one Brewer error and one hit batsman.

The Orem bullpen shut down the Brewer offense, not allowing a base runner over the last ten hitters and the Brewers only had three hits after the first inning. Jayson Miller earned his sixth victory of the year, as he surrendered five runs on seven hits while striking out four. Daniel Meadows was saddled with the loss for the Brewers, as the left-hander started out well but ran into trouble in the fourth inning. Roberto Lopez, Angel Castillo and Luis Jimenez all had multi-hit games for the Owlz.

The Brewers face the Ogden Raptors in a three-game series starting Monday.

Helena Box Score

Deflating loss after the big first inning; RHP Santo Manzanillo with his first appearance since July 30th, not sure of why he's been absent; RHP Cody Scarpetta allowed two unearned runs in his two innings; H-Crew's home record in the second half just 1-8, 10-19 overall at home, 16-13 on the road...

Final, Game Two: St. Lucie (Mets) 5, Brevard County 4

Brevard County Game Two Box Score

Manatees score four in the first inning, led this seven-inning affair 4-0 after four innings, but let the Mets claw back, with closer Mike McClendon serving up a three-spot in the St. Lucie 7th; Mel Stocker (three hits), Charlie Fermaint (two doubles, two RBI), Brent Brewer (single, HBP), and Jonathan Lucroy (2-for-4) with the good games offensively...

Final: Arizona Angels 9, Arizona Brewers 2

Arizona Box Score

Eight losses in a row; RHP Luis Guerrero with three solid relief innings (one run); catcher Shawn Zarraga threw out only one of six attempted base stealers -- you wonder if he's getting any help from the young pitchers at all; Zarraga is certainly getting his share of experience this summer, and once he survives this first professional season, he should be ready to thrive as projected, but he'll certainly be ready for some rest soon...

Final: Round Rock (Astros) 6, Nashville 5

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Road Win Streak Ends With 6-5 Loss To Express

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Nashville Sounds had their five-game road winning streak snapped with a 6-5 loss to the Round Rock Express on Sunday evening at The Dell Diamond.

The Sounds (53-76) held a 5-1 lead in the contest only to watch Round Rock rally with five unanswered runs to record the victory.

Nashville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Chris Woodward's two-out, two-run double to center off Round Rock starter Josh Muecke before Express right fielder Ray Sadler, who produced a game-high three hits on the evening, halved the lead with a two-out RBI double off Troy Cate in the bottom of the frame.

AUDIO: Chris Woodward Two-Run Double

The Sounds extended the lead to 5-1 on Adam Heether's third-inning RBI single combined with a pair of fourth-inning scores against Muecke. Cate helped his own cause with an RBI single that plated Vinny Rottino before Carlos Corporan scored the second Nashville run on the frame on a Tony Gwynn groundout.

Round Rock rallied to tie the contest with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth. After Sadler singled and Nick Gorneault flew out to start the inning, Richie Gardner relieved Cate, who allowed two runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings in his spot start for Nashville.

Danny Klassen greeted Gardner with a walk before Chris Johnson, Yordany Ramirez, and pinch-hitter and former Brewer farmhand Richard Paz followed with three straight singles to make it a 5-3 contest. Facing a bases-loaded jam, Gardner issued a run-scoring walk to Tommy Marzella before permitting a game-tying sacrifice fly off the bat of J.R. Towles.

The Express scored the go-ahead run in the seventh with three consecutive two-out singles off Randy Choate. After the first two batters of the frame were retired, Sadler and Gorneault singled before Klassen gave the home team its only lead of the evening at 6-5 with an RBI knock to center.

The Sounds put the potential tying run on second base with two outs in the top of the ninth courtesy of Heether's double but Dave Borkowski retired Woodward on a groundout to preserve the one-run advantage and notch his second save of the year.

Express reliever Fernando Nieve (2-5) was awarded the victory after working 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Choate (0-4) took the loss for the Sounds after giving up one run on three hits over two innings of work.

The teams continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. CT meeting on Monday night. Left-hander Lindsay Gulin (5-7, 3.95) will take the hill for Nashville to face Round Rock right-hander Jack Cassel (8-3, 3.02).

Nashville Box Score

Other than Yovani Gallardo's three early-season rehab starts, the only Sounds games this year to be started by a pitcher the Brewers drafted were by since-traded Steve Hammond (four games); Joe Dillon on base four times, but did not score a run nor drive one in; Vinny Rottino your left fielder; Mitch Stetter counting the days to September 1st...
