How about the season Mike Adams is having?

With all this talk about former Brewer pitchers like Grant Balfour and Dana Eveland, has anyone been keeping an eye on Mike Adams? 2.18 ERA, 46 Ks in 41 and a third innings, only 14 walks, 1.11 WHIP. His current numbers even eclipse the excellent '04 season he had with Milwaukee (granted he's in pitcher friendly Petco, but his home/road splits are nearly identical). If I recall correctly, wasn't it more of a personal issue rather than an on-the-field issue that kept Adams from continuing with the Crew? Didn't he handle Turnbow's promotion to closer and his subsequent demotion to AAA pretty poorly? It's a shame - he's really putting together a superb season. At least one former Brewer closer is still getting the job done.

Yeah, I definitely had to click on his player page a couple of weeks back to see if it was THAT Mike Adams. Very nice year he's putting together.

That's the thing with relievers though. They're pitching such small samples that it basically takes them 3 seasons to accumulate what a Starting Pitcher does in 1 season, so every couple of years a mediocre RP can do this. It's probably no different than a mediocre SP like Suppan having a good stretch of 10 or so starts.

Petco is to relievers, what Jeff Tedford is to college quarterbacks. Can you imagine if Trevor Hoffman and his straight change was being launched semi-daily at Coors or Arlington? Even Citizens Bank would have probably ended his career. Seriously, they must use some weird smoke machine and mirror system there when they introduce the reliever. Heath Bell, Mets retread or the most valuable set-up guy in the NL?

The Brewers traded Adams to the Mets for Geremi Gonzalez on May 26, 2006. Mike's contract was purchased by the Padres (from Portland) on May 22, 2008.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
