Who will Cleveland pick? Latest -- It's Brantley for sure (reply #178ish)

paul253

Oh, BTW, I'm sure it has been discussed, but are we sure he is a sports agent?

Yes.

Whoever is moved in the deal obviously depends on whether the Brewers make the playoffs, so our friendly agent couldn't possibly know. In addition, neither club is going to call either the agent or the player at this particular point to tell them which direction they are leaning.

I also agree with Jack, Agent 39 may be stretching the truth on purpose, but for what reason I do not understand. Don't forget, he has been wrong in the past as I read these posts as a newbie.

Josh is a lot more connected than any of us to the situation. No, he may not know officially, but he's probably got some pretty good info that he's very kind to pass along to us. Sure, he could be pulling our leg, but 1) why? we're just a message board and 2) he's not even saying that much, just a few hints.

Its fine to be a bit skeptic, but let's not talk down at him like you know more than he does.

It is remarkable that an agent would be spending so much time posting on this board. I disagree that he should "promote their clients" on this board at least. The Brewers don't need to hear how great a player is the agent represents. They know more than him.
So much time posting? Look at his profile. He has less than 300 posts in nearly 5 years. That's hardly spending a lot of time posting. Your last couple of sentences don't make sense either. He shouldn't promote his clients on this board because the Brewers don't need to hear how great the player he represents is? Well, I'm not sure posters on this website are actually in the front office but there are a lot of people that aren't and appreciate any info that we can get from agent39 about his clients.

I promise the goodwill PR that has been generated by my occasional postings here have helped substantially more than if I wasnt saying anything. There is a big fan base here and I have made the players a lot of money thanks to my overall PR efforts, Mr. Jeffress and Mr. Brantley have both just signed substantial exclusive autograph contracts thanks to these efforts. How many minor league players could claim to have the overall endorsements my guys have? Not many. I dont have an obligation to the fans or to readers to relay information, I'm not a writer or a reporter nor have I ever claimed to be, nor do I "inside" information that would harm anybody that I represent. All I am doing is keeping the interest alive in my guys so they have a value that wouldnt normally be there. If it helps the fans out by giving them information not usually available then who gets hurt?

That one poster wrote something as if I owed him something. Guess what? I don't, so without any level of malevolence or anger, just take it for what it's worth. If you like it great, if not who the hell cares, dont read it. Without being a 10 year old, take advantage of all this while its going on because I will not be doing this forever. I also don't care much for fans who seem to think they know more about my job than I do. It's just something that irks me but whatever, everyone is an expert who isnt doing it. And just to further respond to that one post, no, team officials dont call me out of the blue to clue me into the trade, but like anyone who is good at their job, dont you maybe think I have other people I could possibly talk to that might be able to get me the information I would need??? Just maybe isnt that possible??? I have "in's" on both sides of this trade and what I know has matched up on each side. This is the LAST time I am going to mention anything having to do with the trade because either way I cant win. Maybe I'm not even an agent at all? Fun. Go read my one blog posting a couple posts ago, it's dedicated to the people who disapprove with my methods. Thanks for the input though.

Give me a break. If you actually read some of the minor league threads you'd clearly know that Josh has the 'ins'. I can't stand it when folks around here question anything and everything without it being on the JS or ESPN. I'd read read the minor league forum a bit more (ie AFL roster that Josh had the 'in'). I don't want to come off as a jerk, but how is agent posting all the time? You make zero sense and I for one would love for Josh to continue posting here. I follow the AA and AAA squads pretty closely and I really appreciate Josh's views on the players. He's an agent so he may be biased on his players, which is fine. I just love his view since I think most sports fans would love to be good agents (gets you into sports and not bad pay if you're good).

Mike, where has Josh been wrong before? I'd like to know.

Josh, please keep posting what you feel you can here. I appreciate it and from some comments above I'm not alone. I'd also like to give you props for signing Jeffress. I really look forward to your posts about his journey through the system. Any idea where he may start out next year?

Isn't it ironic how when someone says "no disrepect intended" they go out of their way to intentionally disrespect someone?

Agent39 I echo JJ's thoughts, please keep on doing what you do.

JJ, you asked for when Agent 39 was wrong. Here is an example:

How long does Brantley's agent remain a reliable source?

He said Brantley wasn't involved in the Sabathia deal, when it turns out he's a potential PTBNL. He said Brantley's going to the AFL, but he wasn't named on the rosters and may be ineligible.

Neither of these seems like an intentional attempt to mislead, but both would imply he has a tendency to speak on matters while underinformed, which is just as bad when he's been relied on for credible information.

Even some 10-year olds know not to speak without facts. If Brantley ends up in the AFL, I apologize. If not, please recognize my point of his questionable knowledge.

And my source totally [removed] me on the Brantley not being included. I issued a retraction and apologized. Want to crucify me next time? It's ONE time in 5 years I wasnt dead on because my source was lied to. It happens. I dont owe you or anybody an apology but dont start attacking my credibility here, thats not what Im here for. As noted Mike is going to the fall league, or maybe the internet knows more than I do.

"Ash confirmed that outfielder Michael Brantley has been added to the Brewers' contingent in the AFL. Brantley batted .319 in 106 games at Class AA Huntsville with four homers, 40 RBI and 28 stolen bases."

from tomorrow's Journal Sentinal. Well done, as always agent39. I'd be very sorry to see Brantley, Green, or Lucroy leave. If any of them are the PTBNL, please let them know that all of Brewerfan.net nation wishes them well and is sorry to see them leave

Taylor and Mike appreciate all the well wishes from Brewers nation. Taylor had a great time in MIL when he got to meet alot of you guys up close. If either guy is to be traded I know it's going to be a sad moment at first because of how well everyone has treated them.

You really had to get that in there and call me a 10 year old? I only post stuff I know to be fact Im not an idiot. I cant do anything if my trusted source screws up except issue a retraction.

Ok, there really shouldn't be any further doubts on people's credibility or the accuracy of who people claim to be here, so let's stop that line of posts and go back to discussing the topic at hand.

Also, as a reminder, swearing even when some letters are subbed out with a symbol ($@#*, etc) is a no-go here.

Stealing some verbiage from bball123h regarding other "insider" information: "It would be nice if people would be given the benefit of the doubt when they get info.... If we continue to accuse those who have that info, chances are we will stop receiving it.

It's one thing to be skeptical, but it's another thing to challenge a member's credibility every step of the way. There's no need to be rude. Go with the flow.

Gammons just said it was Brantley.

Is there any reason we're taking Gammons' word for gospel here? I'm looking online for independent verification. The way Gammons said it, it almost sounds like he was just speculating. Maybe Cleveland already informed Melvin which player they would take if the Brewers went to the playoffs, but normally, I would think this business doesn't get sorted out until after the season ends.

I'm kinda bummed if it's Brantley. He was my favorite Brewer farmhand.
