High School Pride: Your colors, mascot, preps

jaybird2001wi

High School football is coming up on the horizon and since my brother teaches at our old high school, I am forced to continue supporting the Panther orange and blue even though I spent four years trying to get out of the place.

Just wondering if any of you have any good ol' memories of high school? I can't believe it will be nearly eight years since I graduated high school and more than 10 years since I was a dorky 14-year-old high school freshman.

As a Racine Park High student, I was involved with the school newspaper for awhile (I heard they made into a "newsmagazine" that is only circulated twice a year, ouch) and then was in Student Government for a semester. It's also hard to believe none of my favorite teachers are still there when I last was a student, all my teachers were apparently old and near the end of their teaching careers when I passed by the school, so they basically all retired within two or three years since I had them as teachers.

What were your school colors? Mascot?

When I went to UW-Whitewater, I became friends with or met people who came from high schools with strange school names like the "Monroe Cheesemakers..." I also found Oconomowoc High School to have the most offensive name I have ever heard. I don't even like to say it out loud or even type it.

I also went to high school with this guy for one year:

I'm moving in a couple weeks and I was going through some stuff yesterday. I found two high school yearbooks and threw 'em in the trash. So that should anser that question.

Arrowhead Warhawks. Colors are scarlet, white and blue. Doesn't specify which color blue, it's like a columbia blue that basically outlines the scarlet and white. Probably just call it blue otherwise the fight song would sound dumber than it already is. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Went to school with Nick Hayden, former defensive tackle for the Badgers, now with the Carolina Panthers. Tyler Donovan, former QB of the Badgers. Ben Askren who is currently wrestling in the Olympics. Max Askren, Ben's brother who wrestles for the University of Missouri.

One of the best teachers at Arrowhead is Tim O'Driscoll. Some of you might know him as the Brewers official scorer.

I went to La Jolla Country Day in La Jolla, CA. School colors are blue and white. We were the Torreys, as in the Torrey Pine. Funny thing though, my freshman year it was spelled "Torres."

And to continue on with famous alumni, I went to school for three years with Candice Wiggins:

I was a Riverview Ram (maroon and white) in Sarasota, Florida. Graduated in 1993.

I had a great time in high school, did a lot, learned a lot, made a lot of great friends etc. in what was a good facility with great teachers, but I can't say I have any lasting "pride" in it. Even if I still lived there I can't imagine going to the football games or wearing the colors or anything.

Dominican High School Knights. Colors are Green, White, and Black. Alma mater of Shannon Smith, Andy Kowske, Ray Nixon, JR Blount. I was a manager on the State Champion basketball team with Shannon. Shannon's sister was in my class and Damon Key's brother was in my class.

Football coach Joe Koch (before going to Oak Creek High School) led us to our only football championship while I was there. I don't think we've had a winning season since he left.

I've got my 15 year reunion this weekend and I'm interested to see what people look like and how they're doing.

Currently a senior at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High. We are the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers. Green and Gold our are colors. Historically we have one of the more succcessful football teams in the state, winning it in 97 and I believe had the record for most consecutive playoff appearances until last year when we went 2-7, but we are looking to get back on track this year.

I graduated from Omro High School. The school colors are Maroon and Gold and the mascot/name is the Foxes. I'm not 100% sure but I think that Gary Frank, previously of the NFL, is the only real famous person to come from this fine little town.

I will since I was like 7 years old at that time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm blaming our defense for losing state to Marshfield. We tie it at 14 with a couple minutes left and they give up about an 80 yard TD pass basically giving us no time to drive back down and score (we almost did score.) Froze my ass off for three hours to watch that.

Graduated from Greendale High in '98, mascot is the Panther. Football team sucked while I was there, but our cheerleaders and poms were always state/regional champs and would go to nationals like clockwork. Also our baseball team won state in '95 I think, and guys and girls basketball went to state that same year, allowing all of the students to board buses and go to the UW Fieldhouse for the games. That was fun.

I had a blast in high school. Fun times. No really famous alumni though, a few college football and basketball players but that's it.

I graduated from Richland Center High School in 2004. Our mascot is the Hornet and the school colors are black and orange.

I think that our most famous graduate was Merrill Brunson. He played for four years at UW-Platteville under Bo Ryan, won a couple national championships, and was the Division III player of the year.

And if I remember correctly, the second most famous grad is one Todd Coppernoll.

Being the North Shore, we were awful at things like football and spectacular at things like Tennis (and other Country Club sports).

Famous Alumni include Kato Kaelin, Oprah, current Olympian Garret Weber-Gale, Badger manager turned super-sub Taylor Bronson, BJ Tucker, a member of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, former Huntsville Star Anthony Wycklendt and former MLB'r Lance Painter

Beaver Dam Golden Beavers. Have a few guys I played Hockey with that are playing D1 sports now. Nick Sirota is playing hockey, and Bill Rentmeester is a fb at UW. There are a few people on the "wall of fame" that were in the Olympics. Long ago.

Port Washington Pirates. Colors were Green, White and Gold. No real famous alumni, that I know of. A guy who graduated a year behind me played in the NFL for the Bills, but I think he got cut. We lost to Hawing's Monroe Cheesemakers in the 2007 Boys Basketball tournament. When I was a student there, Tom Brokaw did the NBC Nightly News from our high school. He was covering a story about a sex offender. That's about it.

Wisconsin Lutheran High School

Mascot: Vikings

Colors: Royal Blue, White, and Red (originally just blue and white, red was added when we changed conferences in the 70s because Watertown was already blue and white)

While football gets most of the attention at Wisco these days, the most famous athletic alum is a baseball player (and manager!), Harvey Kuenn.

Another would be PGA golfer Mark Wilson.

Solomon Juneau Business/Charter High School, Class of 2000.

Colors: Navy blue and white

Team Name: Pioneers

Mascot: Bucky Pioneer

Our calling card was sucking at all sports. The only team we could beat at football was North Division, so we'd always play them or Riverside for homecoming. We were really good at debate and chess though. We were in the championship game at state in 2000 for Chess and lost to a school from Madison, ending up in 4th place even though we beat the second and third place teams. I was 4th board on our varsity and went 4-0-2 at state that year.

Our most famous alum, Astronaut James Lovell.
