Guerrero's pitched really well recently. 18/4/13 K/BB/H in 19 innings over his last five appearances.

Luis Guerrero turned 18 on June 20th. Three days later, the Brewers had him start the Opening Day game for Arizona. That wouldn't happen unless they really like what they see in him. Minus the walks, the kid was effective as a 17-year-old in '07 (scroll to bottom of linked page).

Any reason Mike D came out in the 6th? He was at 82 pitches.

Final: Brevard County 6, Vero Beach 3, 13 innings

Brevard County Site Game Summary:

Brewer Blasts Manatees Past Devil Rays
By Tyler Stover / Brevard County Manatees

(Viera, FL) Brent Brewer crushed a three-run, walk-off home run with two outs in the 13th inning to give Brevard County a come-from-behind win over Vero Beach, 6-3. The Manatee offense was shut down most of the day, as Devil Rays starter Wade Townsend teamed up with relievers Chris Kelly and Darin Downs to limit the Manatees to just one run in the first eight innings. Manatees' starter Chris Cody was also effective, working out of some tough jams to allow just two runs in six innings.

Mike Wlodarczyk entered the ninth inning with a 3-1 lead, but was unable to close things down for the save. Taylor Green led off the inning with a single, followed by Lou Palmisano's groundout and another single from Chuck Caufield. Brewer struck out for the second out of the inning, but Kenny Holmberg drew a walk to keep the rally alive. Yohannis Perez came through with a clutch single to center field, scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3 as the teams headed to extra innings.

The Manatees' Rafael Lluberes and the Devil Rays' Ryan Owen took turns putting zeroes on the board for three innings, until Lluberes gave way to Mike McClendon. McClendon (6-5) pitched a scoreless 13th inning, and Owen ran out of gas in the bottom half of the inning. After getting one out, Owen hit Green with a pitch, and then allowed a single to Palmisano. Caufield flew out for the second out, bringing Brewer to the plate. Brewer got the pitch he was looking for, and smashed it over the wall to send the Scout Night crowd of 1,054 home happy.

Brevard County heads to Palm Beach to begin a three-game set on Wednesday. The Manatees are now just five games out of first place, and will be looking to gain even more ground during this series. Bobby Bramhall (3-4, 2.69) will start the series opener for the Manatees, taking on Nicholas Additon, who is making his Cardinals debut. He was 9-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 19 starts for the Quad Cities River Bandits this season. Game time is 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Brevard County's next home series begins Saturday, as they face the St. Lucie Mets in a doubleheader.

Brevard County Box Score

Five relievers combine for seven innings, allowing only one unearned run (Zach Braddock's own error); Brent Brewer hit 11 home runs last season, so his drought this year was not expected; Taylor Green on base four more times...

Brevard County Game Log

Scott Houin pinch-ran for Kenny Holmberg in the bottom of the 9th in an odd spot (first base, bases loaded, down one run) -- that set off a position switcheroonie that saw Taylor Green move to first base, Yohannis Perez to third, and yes, Mel Stocker to second base -- Stocker then handled several plays in the field over the next four innings, as you'll be able to review here...

Final: Augusta (Giants) 2, West Virginia 1, 11 innings
Rival Lakewood (Phillies) won, so the division lead shrinks to one game...

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER FALL IN 11 TO AUGUSTA

Nick Noonan's walk off home run in the bottom of the eleventh inning pushed the Augusta GreenJackets past the West Virginia Power as Augusta snagged the second game of the series with a 2-1 victory.

The GreenJackets took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shane Jordan walked and stole second base before Juan Ciriaco knocked him in with a one-out single. West Virginia was held without a run through the first 15 innings of the series until Lee Haydel's two-out single into center field scored Zelous Wheeler in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams had chances to score after Haydel tied it up. West Virginia stranded two in the seventh after Haydel's base hit and did the same in the eighth inning. The Power had runners on first and second with one out in the ninth before Ryan Paul struck out Matt Cline and Eric Farris to end the inning. Farris was eventually ejected by home plate umpire Bryan Dormaier when he slammed his helmet after the strikeout.

Dom Duggan ripped a one-out double in the eighth inning and eventually got to third base but was left stranded after Mike Ramlow struck out Noonan to end the inning. Andrew Davis started the tenth inning with a base hit, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and got to third base on James Simmons's groundout but was left stranded as Shane Jordan grounded out to end the inning. On the second pitch of the eleventh inning, Noonan homered off Corey Frerichs to end the game.

Mitch Lively (1-0) pitched a scoreless eleventh inning to earn the victory. Frerichs (5-8) was tagged with the loss. Lucas Luetge allowed just a run on three hits and fanned five over six frames. Ramlow tossed four scoreless innings of one-hit ball in relief. Noonan's home run brought the Power bullpen's scoreless innings streak to an end at 33 and two-thirds.

The Power fell to 66-54 on the year and 34-17 in the second half with the loss. The GreenJackets improved to 74-45 on the year and 33-17 in the second half with the win. Haydel turned in the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-5. Curt Rindal singled and walked, bringing his hitting streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 16 games. West Virginia's record in extra innings fell to 5-6.

The Power will continue the four game series against Augusta at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Wednesday night. The Power will throw right hander R.J. Seidel (7-4, 5.40) and the GreenJackets will counter with right hander T.J. Brewer (7-4, 2.83). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

West Virginia Box Score
Eric Farris now 0-for-9 in the series, additional cause to be upset with himself (and the umpire); fantastic work by southpaws Lucas Luetge and Mike Ramlow; ten stranded, including five in scoring position with two out...

Mark DiFelice nine K's (and of course for Mark, no walks) through four scoreless innings tonight.

There's your # 5 starter in '09, folks.

No offense to Mark, because I like the guy, but I hope with the stage our franchise is at right now, that we have a better option for a 5th starter then Mark DiFelice.

Final: Oklahoma (Rangers) 1, Nashville 0, ten innings

The extra-inning version of the Link Report tonight...

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Link for Mark DiFelice photo, text follows --

NASHVILLE - The Oklahoma RedHawks plated an unearned run in the top of the tenth inning to hang a hard-luck 1-0 loss on the Nashville Sounds in front of 6,722 fans on Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series.

The contest was the 14th extra-inning game of the year for Nashville, which fell to 0-6 in extras at Greer Stadium, and the Sounds' first 1-0 game since defeating Oklahoma 50 weeks ago to the day in Music City on August 26, 2007.

The RedHawks snapped a season-high six-game skid with the victory.

Ryan Roberts opened the tenth by drawing a walk from Sounds reliever Randy Choate then advanced to third when the Nashville hurler misfired into center field while trying to force him at second on a John Mayberry bunt. Two batters later, pinch-hitter Joaquin Arias grounded an RBI single through the right side of the infield to plate Roberts with the eventual game-winning run in unearned fashion.

RedHawks reliever Bill White retired the Sounds in order in the bottom of the tenth to notch his fourth save of the year.

Yukinaga Maeda (5-3) earned the win for Oklahoma after he pushed the game to extra frames with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Choate (0-3) took a loss for the second straight outing for Nashville after surrendering the game-winning run in unearned fashion in his lone inning of work.

The teams engaged in scoreless baseball over the first nine innings of play.

Sounds starter Mark DiFelice was dealing, recording 11 strikeouts through 5 1/3 scoreless innings, before departing in the middle of an at-bat due to a back injury. The 11 strikeouts match a career high for the right-hander (4th occurrence, 2nd this season). With the outing, he lowered his ERA to 3.32 through 12 starts.

Right-fielder Laynce Nix provided solid defense behind the right-hander in the early going, making a diving catch of a Mayberry fly ball in shallow right to end the second then throwing out Casey Benjamin at second in the third inning when he attempted to extend a single to a double.

Richie Gardner took over on the hill for Nashville after DiFelice's departure and worked 3 2/3 scoreless frames, allowing two hits.

Oklahoma starter Brandon McCarthy engaged the Sounds hurlers in a pitchers' duel, allowing one hit over six scoreless frames while striking out four before yielding to Kiko Calero, who added 1 2/3 scoreless innings of his own.

The Sounds had their best chance to score in the seventh. After registering only one hit over the first six frames, Brad Nelson singled and Nix followed with a double to put runners on second and third with only one out. However, Calero induced consecutive flyouts from Adam Heether and Chris Woodward to escape the jam unscathed.

Center-fielder Tony Gwynn went 2-for-4 to account for half of Nashville's hits on the evening.

The teams continue the series with a noon matinee on Wednesday afternoon at Greer. Left-hander Lindsay Gulin (5-6, 3.96) will toe the rubber for the Sounds to face Oklahoma right-hander Elizardo Ramirez (9-5, 4.41).

Nashville Box Score

Too bad about DiFelice -- hopefully OK for a September call-up; where was this version of Richie Gardner as a starter? Tony Gwynn 17-of-21 in stolen base attempts...

Redhawks beat Sounds with hit in 10th inning

By STEVE SILVER

Tennessean Staff Writer

The Sounds' extra-inning problems continued Tuesday night as the Oklahoma Redhawks escaped Greer Stadium with a 1-0 victory in 10 innings.

The Sounds are now 0-6 in extra-inning games at home.

The Sounds held the Redhawks to five hits through nine innings, and Sounds Manager Frank Kremblas decided to call in reliever Randy Choate in the 10th.

Entering Tuesday's game, Choate had allowed 10 earned runs and 15 hits in his last 7 2/3 innings.

"He's a groundball pitcher and really it could have been anybody," Kremblas said. "(Troy) Cate wasn't ready, (Joe) Bateman threw the other day and we decided to go with Choate because they had some lefties coming up too."

That decision proved costly as Choate walked the first batter he faced and committed an error to allow that runner to advance to third. Pinch-hitter Joaquin Arias singled to right field to drive in the game-winning run.

Lopsided rivalry: The loss drops the Sounds' record against the Redhawks to 1-12 this season. The last time Nashville lost 13 games to the same opponent in the same season was in 2001 when they finished 3-13 against the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Errant fielding: Choate's wild throw past second base in the 10th inning marks the sixth straight game in which a Sounds' fielder has committed an error.

Nix rolling: Outfielder Laynce Nix, who doubled in the seventh inning, is now batting .364 (28-for-77) with 15 extra-base hits in his past 20 games. He has hit safely in 17 of those.

Final: Arizona Angels 12, Arizona Brewers 4

Arizona Box Score

Brewers scored four runs late after being no-hit for the first seven innings; Rolando Pascual walks four in another ugly outing, this one a two-inning start -- in the first inning alone, he walked three and hit two; Carlos George won't miss the baked Arizona League infields, that's for sure; Shawn Zarraga on base three times, as his .859 OPS makes him one of the few kids who has truly shined offensively in Maryvale this summer...
