Why is there a Gary Sheffield poll on JSonline

Just wondering why they would post this poll, "If the Brewers needed to add a hitter, would you favor a trade for Gary Sheffield?"

I think this would be about the last thing that would happen, has anybody heard anything?

I know Sheffield was complaining about the platoon situation he is in right now in Detroit and said he would look at possible options with other teams. I would go to his first game as a Brewer and boo him mercilessly. No way would I be for this trade.

Chances are that Sheffield is included in the online poll so that people will notice it, tell their friends about it, and they will tell their friends about it, etc, so that a lot more people than normal would respond to a meaningless poll. Controversy drives traffic.

As for Sheffield moving, I heard speculation on another board that the Rays may be interested in him and he would have similar interest in going there. There is another slugger who would probably join this team before Sheffield, if for no other reason than he is freely available.

Were Sheffield to return to the Brewers, I don't know that I could trust him to give his all - since he didn't exactly the first time around.

That, and if there were anyone for whom I'd join in the merciless booing, Gary just might be that guy.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

yikes. i'll take Bonds over Sheffield, i think.

i almost wonder if Sheffield would boost attendence, people going to the park just to boo him. those are some bad memories we don't need revisited.

Sheffield is complaining about playing time in Detroit, and has also said he doesn't like being the DH. Jim Leyland has responded publicly, saying he had told Sheffield he would DH in a conversation prior to the trade, and that if he didn't like it, he shouldn't have accepted the deal.

Sheff can't play the outfield anymore, his shoulder can't handle it. Dealing for him would be a major risk, and a very expensive one at that.

No, absolutely not.

I honestly don't think the new wave of fans who jumped on board the past year or so or younger fans know how much they should hate Sheffield.

Last time I was at Miller Park I saw multiple people wearing retro Sheffield jersey.
