4 More Years For Dan Haren

Minigoon
Hey, in three years the average cost of a major league starter who can't pitch more than 100 innings a year SHOULD be in the 10 million dollar range--so anyway you look at it it's a huge win for the D-backs. I think Teddy Higerua could probably pen a 2 to 5 million dollar deal right now. He'd be worth it.

Maybe we can use this deal as a barometer for signing Sheets in the offseason, afterall, Haren and Sheets are the same calibur of pitchers.

Not really. These situations are completely different. Sheets is going to free agency where anybody can put in a bid. Haren was still under the D'Backs control for two more years after this one.

"I really don't see the point in Haren signing this deal unless he is a member of that rare breed of athlete that isn't always wooed by the gigantic contract. If he's just happy in Arizona and wanted to stay there, I like him even more now."

I read an article today in which he said the following "I'm not the kind of guy who wants to cash it in and make a huge, ridiculous contract," said Haren, who said he decided to make Phoenix his family home after the trade from Oakland.

"They approached me, and I wanted to stay."
