Funny, MLB.com just took the deal off their site. They had it as:

"Jason Bay to Tampa for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann" according to BP. Brignac is supposed to be good but I still like it for the Rays, especially because Bay will be around next year too.

on a weird note, Bay's middle name is "Raymond", so his name contains 66% of the Tampa Bay Rays' name. A perfect fit, really. I think he should start going by Ray, sort of the opposite of what Albert Belle did (he went from being known by his middle name to being known by his first name).

Good move short term for the Brewers, bad move long term.

 

Niemann has front of the rotation potential and Brignac is one of the Rays top ten prospects. A top 10 on that team is pretty dang good. Brignac might make Brewer fans long for the days of Jack Wilson. The guy has big upside on his bat and plays a nice defense.

BP says Bay may be going to the Red Sox instead. I guess the Manny deal may have been rekindled at the last minute?

Was it just someone trying to scoop the deal that got ahead of themselves? Wasn't Bay to TB the main rumor recently? Sounds like a classic case of getting the personnel or where they're headed mixed up in a trade rumor.
