7/30/08 Cubs (Dempster) at Brewers (Parra): 7:05 CDT

The Brewers are a very good team. Good enough to have a very good shot at the wildcard and an outside chance at the division. That was true a week ago and it's still true today.

I woudn't say the Brewers were hot on the road some much as they played a generally bad SF team and then got some very timely hits in STL after wasting a lot of opportunities. The Houston series is at least as distressing as this in terms of the big picture view of this team. As bad as Atlanta is at present with injuries and now no Texieria, a weekend series loss to teh Braves (including a loss on teh FOX Saturday game) would be a very bad omen for the rest of the year.

If you think the Brewers are more talented than the Cubs, then what is holding us back? Timely hitting? Yost? Defense?

I think the Brewers are the 2nd best team in the NL, but the Cubs have lead the division the whole year, they have a huge run differential, and players like Dempster, Theriot, and Soto are great major league players. I don't think they are overachieving.

1. Do I think the Brewers are more talented? Yes. Do I think Yost is holding them back? Well, name one other major-league manager who would have called for a hit-and-run TWICE with the catcher on first and the pitcher batting. That's just one example. Check the Yost thread for others.

2. Oh, and the defense is generally terrible. Whoever is responsible for that is probably worse at his job than Yost is.

3. I think the Brewers are the most talented team in the NL outside of probably the Mets. That won't get them anywhere unless the manager and about half the team remove their heads from their posteriors.

Managers ave such a small impact on games. this entire pathetic series is on the players and their failure to step up and compete. That hit and run doesn't happen if these guys handn't filled their cleats with poop after how many consecutive games chocking with men in scoring position. This team isn't succeeding in spite of Yost. It's just such a ridiculous concept.

I can guarantee that if Rickie Weeks gets another pinch hit AB, the drunken idiots will continue to boo him once his name is announced. Yet, they give Corey Hart a pass for playing like crap for most of July.

I'm generally not in favor of booing your own players, but if you're going to do it, at least do it to everyone who's struggling.

maybe if 1/3 of our batting order didn't hit a ridiculous .230 we could be in a better position to win more games. It's a wonder that we are even close to being good with so many bad hitters.

1/3?

more like 5/9

I guess when you add the pitcher it would be. Oh how truly sad that is

I sure wouldn't mind wrapping my hands around the throat of that annoying Cubs fan behind homeplate who does these big drama queen flops when there's a call he doesn't like and stands up to taunt our players when they strikeout

You know, to give him a great big hug
